View Full Version : Changing The File name Prefix in the Camera

I have a G3 and an A70 as well as a Digital Rebel, and I would like to know if there is a way to change the file names from IMG_9999 to something else (like G3_9999 or DRB_9999). What I want to get out of this is identification of the camera used for the image and I want to avoid seeing something like 'file IMG_0512.JPG already exists. Do you want to replace it?'
If I can do this, I would like to change it on all 3 cameras. I would rather not have to rename in my photo software, as I unload the images from the CF card to a directory, and I may not touch the images for some time.
Any thoughts?

I don't think you can do this, but someone more familiar with BreezeBrowser may know better than I.
It sounds like you're downloading all your images to the same directory - if so, why? If you create a directory for each camera, you won't get the "file exists" message.

Thanks for the reply. I am not downloading to the same directory, but I may wind up trying to put them into the same directory down the line. For instance, I create CF cards to use with my digital picture frame, and I could theoretically run into the problem there. It would be easy enough to rename one of them at that point, but if I can eliminate the problem with a different prefix to start with, so much the better.
It seems that there is software that can do this, but again, it would be cleaner if they never had the same name.

If your using Zoombrowser from Canon there is a prefix check box on the download screen which allows you to insert up to 30 character before the image name. Download Pro from Breeze Systems lets you make various changes through File, Preferences.
A freefile from www.fauland.com, called A.F.5 is one I use to rename files that I have already downloaded and forgot to fix ahead of time.
Hope this helps

...just watch how many generations of resaving you make because each save on a jpeg deteriorates the pic. Convert to tiff or something and then save all you like.
