My first digital camera was the G2 and I think it is a great camera. I was at the point of getting some lenses. After extensive research I made a decision. Rather then spend money on lenses for the G2 I decided to sell it and buy the Canon EOS 300D. Here is why. My Black G2 had a retail cost of $1499.00 and the 300D sells for $1599.00 That is only $100.00 more and the camera is absolutely wonderful. It focuses so fast and 99% of my shots are in focus. My G2 did have some focussing difficulties. The 300D is 6.3 Mega pixels and it is an SLR. The two cameras don’t even compare I am so happy with my decision and now I can buy quality lenses that will satisfy all my needs. If it is in your budget I recommend you think about it. The G2 will only do so much and for the difference in price the 300D is a professional camera and it will preform for you. Just the speed and accuracy of focussing makes this camera worth every cent. When your child smiles you will catch it, when that stock car flies buy you will catch it. There are to many pluses for me to list here. Do the research read reviews check it out. Here are some pictures I have taken with both cameras. Have a look if you like. I still think the G2 is a great camera but the 300D is amazing.

I agree that the 300D is a better camera, but I only paid $425.00 for my G2 brand new. I've spent a couple hundred dollars on filters, and accessories, but that still doesn't come close to the cost of a 300D, or a 10D.

I would love to have either of those cameras though. I always keep my eye open for a good deal on either, or even a D60.

Until I get a nice DSLR... I'll have to make do with my G2 (haha, that rhymed).

Congratulations on your purchase. As it already has, I'm sure it will continue to bring you much joy.

I'm envious by the way http://photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smile4.gif :D

You are totaly right. I forgot to add that most people didn't pay retail for the G2 I paid $1199.00 for mine. I would think that the 300D will come down in price and then people can get one for a few hundred cheaper.

Yeah, I've seen the 300D with the "kit" lens for less than $1000.00. That's still too steep for me I think. I'm just an amateur, so I can't really justify the cost of a DSLR to my wife. Me, myself, and I have no problem with the justification however. Since marriage is somewhat of a democracy, we should have a vote... since I'm currently leading 3:1 :D I'll let you know how I fair in the polls http://photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smile4.gif

Just tell her that you need a 300D to take better pictures of her and the family. Tell her a DSLR will bring out her true beauty.

Beautiful shots with the 300.
Love that Elliott Lake shot.

No doubt the 300 is a better camera ! But no doubt either that it is a lot of Canadian dollars. This is a great hobby, and one to enjoy in the years ahead.

Best you get started now -- berfore your kids take a bigger bite of your income. At the same time, you have to stay cool to keep pouring more money into Japanese electronics!

Im a piano player, and I poured a packet into e-organs and e-synthesizers and every e-Ataris. Today it's all largely unused and obsolete. At least the G2 is heavily used -- thanks to another ton of money re PC's, software, and Epson (paper and Ink).

Ouch!

Your not kidding!!! We the consumers are like junkies, we have to have everything and just when you think you have everything you want, something better comes out. Oh well, As long as we are having fun and paying the bills then I guess it's ok. Happy shooting !!!!!!!
