Anybody had any dealings with Sigma with regard to warrantys ?

I have a Sigma 15-30mm which I thought was great ... right up till the time something inside broke :-(

If I point the camera above the horizontal, it's generally ok and focuses correctly - but if I then lower the camera so that it is pointing below the horizontal, the camera jerks out of focus. Then when trying to focus on the house next door, the autofocus whirrs in and says, yep fine, but the viewfinder is *way* out of focus and the camera thinks next door is less than 1 foot away!

Also, when I tilt the lens backwards and forwards, I can hear a clicking sound inside like something is moving.

I'm presuming one of the lens mountings has broken ?

Anyway, Jessops (UK) have told me that the warranty on the lens is only 12 months and as I've had the lens 15 months then I'm on my own.

Anybody dealt direct with Sigma before ? Any hints 'n' tips to persuade Sigma to fix my lens ?!

Thanks!

Cheers,
Steve.

I am now on my second 120-300 HSM APO EX top of the line Sigma and guess what I still am having problems and am sending the second one back to B&H for a refund. Bowth lenses were new. Then I have the Sigma 105 EX macro and it is fine. Sigma can all to often be a game of hit or miss you may get a good one and then you may get a bad apple. I had the same problems with the sigma 17-35 HSM EX and sent it in to sigma 7 times and then sold it off. I now have the canon 17-35 L and have never had any problems with it in the 3 years I have had it. This is the sigma quality you can expect so lets hope they can fix it fast and you can start shooting with the lens soon.

I have a 24-70 that I dropped and broke a few things inside, like the motor. They are going to fix it, obviously not under warranty, for $105 with shipping.

I think that is a fair price.

As for Sigma lenses, I have two. 24-70ex and a 70-200ex. both are excellent lenses.

In January 2003, I purchased the Sigma 170-500mm zoom lens. Three weeks later, it totally failed to focus. I called Sigma and they said that it would need to be upgraded. Bull****. The manufacturing date was only two months prior. I sent it in and they repaired it. I got it back a week later, and all was good.

Then in September 2003, it totally failed to focus. I called to Sigma and they said that it would need to be upgraded. Bull****. I sent it in, but after three weeks, I hadn't heard anything, so I called them. "Oh, that is for a Canon 10D?" NO. "We'll check it out."

I received it back several days later, repaired. So far, it is still within the original warranty, but it sure makes me wonder.
