Not to be trumped by the new Sony "self-cleaning" sensor technology, Canon today released previously classified information regarding their own upcoming sensor-cleaning technology. Likely to be seen first on the much anticipated 1DsMkIII, the self-cleaning sensor system, or "SCSS" uses a proprietary technology to whisk away dust, debris, and according to internal sources at Canon, even spray.
The spy photo below was acquired from an un-named source close to the development group within Canon's highly secretive labs.

That's a great picture. I can't believe I didn't come up with something like that. I just need those for my glasses. :)

Thats a classic.
Do bacteria/bugs get splattered and smeared around just like a car windscreen?

No but if you take your lens off in the street, some eastern european urchin will come and try and wash your sensor for a dollar despite your protestations!

Well, that seals it - my wife will never get a camera with this technology, because I'm the one who always has to fill her washer solvent tank, and I'm not going to take the hit for her scratching her sensor! (OBTW - she currently has an A80, so she's not likely to make such a move soon)
Have Fun,

Does the information says anything about interval cleaning?
Or can we set it up to do a automatic clean everyday at 3:00 PM?
:D :D :D
