Email address' Starred?

Just wondering if the starring ************** of email address' in posts and PM's is a POTN thing or a vBulliten thing. If its a POTN thing why is this needed and is it possible to lift it for marketplace? If its a vBulliten thing then I suppose there is nothing that can be done. Just something I have always wondered when typing my email address in a pm with at gmail dot com. Thanks.

In a sense it helps you, because there are web crawlers, and a lot of spammers take advantage of e-mails left on boards, although usually good to have more than one address.

As far as I can see there is no option to change this and even if there were I doubt Pekka would want to change it. It is never a good idea to post Your email address in a public forum.

I definitely agree with the last two posts. Another scam I came across a couple of years ago was a guy posting the email hyperlink in the User Profile.
