Camera returned several "error99", it was not battery (changed to fresh fully sharged), it was not CF card, changed that one too. All functions seemed OK until I tried to take picture - result was always "error99".
Temperature 5 degC and very humid, almost rain.
My guess was condens or something on the sensor, or just the humidity and rather cold temperature in general.
After having had the camera indoors for a couple of hours, there were no error messages any longer and everything seemed back to normal.
Does Anyone out there have any similar experiences?

Out of interest what lens were you using?

Tried both my original Canon lenses, the one which comes with the camera, EFS18-55 and another 75-300USM.

I have found error 99 is most certainly NOT allways lens related, (although it does seem the most common cause)
The only times I have gotten error 99 were when the 10D had trouble with a microdrive.

On page 127 of Digital Rebel manual:
Error Codes:
Err 01: Clean the lens contacts.
Err 02: There is a problem with the CF card.
Err 04: CF Card full.
Err 05: Something obstructed the built-in flash's pop-up operation.
Err 99: An error other than the above has occured.

PS. Makes you wonder what happened to Err 03. :)

Thanks for many good inputs! I still however suspect the humidity, either lenscontacts or elsewhere inside the camera!

I think you're right Petrus. It was either the cold, humidity, or a combination of both. Problem solved when camera was brought back inside to warm and dry.

This seems like an odd comment to make but i have heard it several times on other forums...
Are you wearing a hat? Some found that their baseball caps were stopping the flash from poping up when it wanted--instant error signals!

No, that gives me an ERR 5.
I translate as the camera saying to me "You're wearing the damn baseball cap again, aren't you?"

I just purchased my 300D over the weekend (an upgrade to my Rebel 2000). I've encounted the ERR99 several times already - very disappointing. I believe my errors are lens related but need some more time to flush it out exactly.
I do like the quality of the camera - I've taken some great photos already.

James.
Some will argue that if you're not using Canon lenses, flushing probably is the best way to deal with it.
Seriously, what lens are you using?
Tom.

A baseball cap!!??? Surely you must feel the flash popping up even if wearing a cap!! Seriously, when reading the manual (so brief, that it is even readable) it clearly says, that "error99" is returned in cases when the camera could no take a picture. So later I put the camera in sensor cleaning position and had a look at the naked very large area sensor. I believe it is quite possible that if some condensed water or other alien substance can cause problems which makes the vamera return error99.
Or possibly just humidity on the lens contacts....

I have had my DReb for almost a month now and the only "error 99" I have encountered was a non compatible lens. Try wiping the contacts with a cloth.
If you are using a 1.4 or 2x extender you must first attach them to the lens and then to the body.

I only encounter err 99 when using sigma lens 70-300 APO at aparture other than wide open. The lens works fine at wide open. but when using smaller apature, camera won't work and give the er 99 message.

I was really disapointed with this too. I had a lot of these errors with my original 18-55mm lens. I noticed that it happened more times when I was on really bright light (outdoor with bright sun). If anybody knows what to do to improve this, I will be looking around.

I'm sorry for this, it won't help any, and some of you will probably be mad at me for saying so, but anyways: I would like to send a big "THANK YOU" to the guys in here who about one month ago said, "If you can afford it, put in the extra bucks for the 10D, you won't regret it". I haven't so far, and when reading stories like this, I certainly don't :) My cam have worked flawless, and I've never seen any error-message of any kind, except the EV-compensation blinking on under/over-exponation :)
