Female marbled white shot today. As it came out of the camera, just resampled for posting. Canon S3 + 500D

nice to get the BG so OOF. Beautiful butterfly, don't remember ever seeing one.

Thanks Racketman. They're not that uncommon around my locality, usually found in scrubby areas and uncut meadows of long grass, although best at the latter half of June and are past their peak now. This little lass was turning round and round as she was nectaring from the knapweed so I sat with the camera pointed towards what looked like the best background and waited for her to face with the wings parallel to the plane of focus. Many butterflies love black and greater knapweed so it's worth looking out for where it grows.
