Now that's not a very nice way to say it. Perhaps we could just say the image is a bit "soft." ;)

Well, I'll try to be nice.:)
It looks like you have a nice physique. How long have you been into bodybuilding? It is very hard to tell from the picture, but I am going to guess you are in your forties.
The picture is unfortunely way out of focus. But I think that you probably knew that and just wanted to show yourself and the hard work you have put in at the gym.
Thanks for sharing,

My short response above was a direct result of my scepticism. If I am wrong I do apologize for my abrupt answer above. The image is definitely of someone who has spent some serious time at bodybuilding. Nice work on that. As to the technical merits of the photo - it's OOF.

Thanks, Yes I'm 44 yrs old, this was my first compition all went well
finish 5th in my weight class. Been intrested in fitness for about 8 yrs but the last 4 yrs the Bodybuilding has taken over my goals.
I'm a part time trainer and also do sports nutrition consulting.
So hears the Real question ???
I have clients who are competive BB and I also attend many of the Pro contest and I would like to get better shots then my wife took...DAAA !
How shoud I outfit my ESO rebel xt to shoot these types of events.
Somtimes I"m in the first 10 rows or on stage(amature Contest LOL) or sometimes I'm 40 rows out (Pro Contests) Which lenes, flash etc would be best.
O yes price is an issue....we would all like a dream lenes like a 18-400 f2.8L if it exists i surley could not afford it and would not want to carry it... .Not sure many could. All opnions will be very welcome.
Mods if this should be moved to a different section I understand
Thanks I was out of town I usally would not have let this go so long

LOL... there's an oops if ever I saw one... quick trick, I didn't come up with it my niece did..She presses on the shutter and counts to five, that way she makes sure everything is in focus before she takes the shot.. that could help a bit with someone who's not familiar with using a DSLR..

I don't know how the stage lighting is where you compete, but I shot my daughters' dance recital in June, very poor lighting there. I used a EF 300 f/2.8L seated at the very back of a sixty row auditorium with very decent results. This might not be the best option from onstage or 10 rows back. A good one lens solution that I could suggest is a 70-200 f/2.8 or the sigma 120-300 f/2.8.
Hope it helps somewhat.

from 10 rows I use either 70-200 f2.8 or 85mm 1.8. The 85,, is awesome in low light, great DOF and is pretty cost effective.

These pic's were taken 9 days out....b-4 carb loading and drying out.
I was at about 8% in the bod pod. This was my first compition came down for 16.9% as you can see at 44yrs old our skin dose not tighten up like when we were 20yrs old. I'm currently holding 12% adding size to my quads, traps and back sweep. Planning on packing on size untill Jan 2007 then diet down for a March 31 show

I used a monopod.
You can see some of the shots in this thread:

I don't know if flash would workwith that lens or not (My guess is that it would). It depends on how well lit the stage is and also how much of the stage you would like to show.
As far as which flash, I have a Sigma EF 500 Super DG. That seems to work pretty good, but I have never used it in such conditions, as flash is not allowed during the performance. You might want to check the rules for BB competitions as well.
Hope some of this helps,
Travis
