As you would expect this wee crater had a mouth full of sand eels when I caught him. This was on May Island, we were a bit dissapointed as they were few on the ground, I reckon they were getting ready to leave the island. Good day though. Mark I want no comments about the horizon;) Hope you like this wee guy as much as I do.
Cheers Ricky

Just how is it that they end up with a whole mouthful of the sand eels? I always assumed that puffins ate herring - in fact, I could swear someone told us that, and that they were in big trouble because the herring migrations were changing patterns due to warming ocean water. Or maybe sand eel is just a form of herring?

I'd love to know more about these birds. Love the pics.

Very sharp, nice color and love the composition. The chest is a little warm though.

Kr88 thanks for your kind words mate really appreciate that:lol:

Superscot yeah thats with the new sigma, I am very happy with it it doesnt seem that soft to me now http://www.clipart.co.uk/clipart/mazeguy/animated/yes.gif

nwyman I am no expert on these wee guys although I really think they are great. They are without a doubt sand eels they are eating. A few facts I learnt today they can dive to over 30mtrs in search of food, live until they are 30 years old. The new born fledgling leave the island 1st week in August to go to sea and do not return to dry land for 5 yearshttp://www.clipart.co.uk/clipart/mazeguy/animated/shocking.gif They also mate for life which is unusual these days:lol: . Thanks for the kind words mate.

Cheers Ricky

A super shot Ricky. It was a great day out despite the lack of success from this side of the water.

Fantastic image of a wonderful bird. Great character and my only nit would be the whites on the front of the bird. ...a little hot... but I still wish it was mine!

A really great shot - well done.

It's a well known recipe, a puffin with sandeels in it's bill, but you've cooked it to perfection.
