My Canon 10d has no serial number enscribed on the tag on the base plate, is this a common occurance?
I purchased mine from Dell in June.
Canon says they want me to send it back to put the body number on the plate. I can't bear to part with it for the time it will take.

No serial number? That's bizarre. Never heard that one. Canon wants the camera back eh? I sure hope they offer to pay overnight shipping both ways. Ship out on Monday and get back by Friday morning at the latest.

Canon skimped on quality for the serial number labels. Many of them just plain rubbed off.
Youll find the serial number in the EXIF information.

Whenever you take a picture the serial number shows up in the RAW details.

This doesn't look like it was rubbed off, were they just printed on?
Thanks for the info on the raw data, I'll make sure the numbers match the box!
Thanks

Another idea, look at your warantee card and bounce it off of the one from the image info. Make sure they match! I just pulled Big Ed off for the first time since I mounted him on and mine matches the warantee card. I can't imagine the placard coming off. Mine looks like it is there till death do us part!
Cheers from England,
Canuck
