Hello all, I recently found a digital rebel at a pawn shop for a very cheap price. I am considering buying it and having it converted to IR. My questions before I do this are:

I currently use my 20d to do some IR shots, but it requires such long exposures and tripods and this and that.

1. if I convert a camera for only IR will it still require such long exposures, or will I be able to have normal shutter and aperture times ie- f8, @250 for example.

2. Has anyone converted a rebel to IR and if so does it take good photos. If not can you reccomend a cheap camera that would take good photos once converted.

3. When they convert the camera do you actually see your image through the eye piece in IR. Or does it look like normal color and then convert it to IR once the picture is taken.

Thanks so much for any help you all can provide.

I had my 10D converted to IR by Life Pixel (www.lifepixel.com) and they did a great job. It took slightly less than 2 weeks and that included the shipping time.

You don't see the image in IR through the viewfinder, you see what you are looking at just like you would through any other camera.

You will get close to normal exposure times. It takes some experimentation and I now overexpose most of my IR shots by almost a full stop.

According to their website, they do convert the Canon 300D.

It is a huge improvement over using the R72 filter to accomplish IR. You still have to do some serious post processing in order to get your shots looking good.

When you say post processing what exactly do you mean? When I convert the camera and then take the picture will it not be in Infrared? What type of work has to be done after the picture is taken.
Do you still have to use an IR filter on the lens
