Aloha,
I am new to this forum and this is my first post. Just looking for a few comments and critiques. This was my 1st Engagement shoot. The groom did not take my advice on wearing "plain clothing" and the bride had a pink cast on one arm so I spent considerable time trying to hide the cast! These people are friends and they were not charged..I'm still learning and they were aware of that. They were not planning on having any sort of pictures done. Anyway please let me know what you think..the rest of the pics in this series are here: http://www.aiharavisuals.com/gallery/1673787
Thanks for looking...Kim A.

Kim, I think these are all really nice. Beautiful location and couple. The only thing I would personally recommend is to not have the horizon so much in the center of the photograph. That may just be my personal preference though. I think you did a great job, I'm sure they will love them!

Oh, I hate saying this, but, she looks so elegant and stylish and he looks mismatched with his clothes. If he was just in casual shorts and shirt, that would have been less distracting for me. Otherwise, I think your shots are beautifully process and composed.

And Welcome!

I agree about the clothing!! There wasn't much I could do. They are a very very casual, beachy couple. They loved the pictures at least! Thanks for the comments.

Great work especially for a 1st session. Try cropping #2 so it's landscape with a ratio of something like 5:2 (wider than high).

I know you are trying to get the scene in the shot as well, but I would have liked to see the couple a bit bigger in the frame. Otherwise, very nice.

I agree with the comments above.. Just ensure with engagement shots you also get a nice basic shot of the two of them close together looking at the camera.. Just a couple of basic couple portraits to throw in there.. ;)

Some nice shots though. :)

Honestly....

Amazing. I never noticed the cast, and never thought it looked unnatural. First engagement shoot? Wow. You have skills...haha pun intended.

You seem like you have a good grasp on postprocessing as well. Did you do the photoshop work too?

The only thing that struck me on the first glance over...and that is how I try and critique photos since we get far too picky with each others work at times...I wouldn't have cropped the last one so tightly (would have left his head and the bottom part of her dress). Other than that one thing that grabbed me, fantastic set, and I know the couple will be thrilled.

Thanks for the nice comments "noskills"..yes I did all of the post processing with PSCS2. I actually learned photoshop a little before I started getting into photography...thats been a big help I must say. Still working on my composition skills though...thanks again...Aloha

between the first and the second photo.. did you use a polarizer on the 2nd one? cuz the ocean and sky is crystal clear, whereas the first one the sky was kinda flat.

No polarizer was used...here in Maui our weather is crazy...it was switching between stormy with drizzle and sunny in just minutes. It was also 25-30 mph winds so that why the sky is different. It was storming about 1 mile offshore in on direction...the other direction was beautiful! Thats Hawaii for you! Aloha

Aloha! Welcome!
Great shots! Where did you shoot? Old Maui High and Old Lahaina Luau grounds? I love your choice of places! Makenna is great for ports!
Maybe with his shirt he is paying homage to her that " she is the best"? Either way I think you did a fantastic job capturing the beauty of not only the couple but the land as well!
Mahalo for sharing!

Yes I shot at Old Maui High and also "Mama's Fishhouse Beach". The couple is getting married at Hookipa Beach Park so these settings fit them very well.
