Both taken in shutter priority, EF 75-300 at 300mm, approximately 1/320", 5.6-7 aperture, and ISO 800 (I believe).

Your settings are good. Great shot.
You did not fall prey to iso fear! I have a feeder up and no birds this year. Worrisome.

Nice set of shots for your first attempt.

I'd say your first attempt was a smashing success. Nice images with excellent detail. I really enjoy these guys in the yard and find them very difficult to catch with a camera. They move fast and they are small.

You did a great job. Much better than the one I posted a few days ago with the 70-200.

I like the first one more, cuz there's no feeder, but these ARE excellent for your "first" attempt! Great work!

Thanks everyone, I love it when you have to genuinely sort through good shots to decide which ones to post...
While I was watching/shooting some butterflies were around the feeders/flowers and if they got too close, the hummingbirds would literally snap at them... THAT is the shot I really wanted...
Might have to stake it out and try to catch it sometime...

In-flight shots are the hardest, you've done exceptionally well. Keep it up!
