Help!
I can't afford the 2.8 28-xx glass from Canon and need the 2.8 glass instead of my Canon 28-135. I thought I was going to get the Tamron 28-75 but the Tokina 28-70 2.8 Pro SV is calling. It is $100 less, and even less used from KEH, and the only downside is the larger size and filter.
If anyone has picked on over the other I would appreciate it. Since the Tamron is so new it isn't on sites like photozone with user ratings against the Tokina SV which ranks very high.
Please help!

Hi Craig,
I've had the Tokina lens, and the 80-200 f.2.8 big brother, for a number of weeks. Reason? As a full-time cop I too can't afford the Canon 'L' glass.
Results? Extremely good. I recently went to a para-gliding/hang-gliding event, used the 20-70 lens, and the focussing caused very little problem. Contrast was equally good, as was sharpness. Yes they do weigh a lot and the 77mm filter size is big but they do feel well and theye are very well built.
For the relatively low price they are highly recommended. I have to admit though that for a little cash more I would probably gone for the Sigma EX lenses, and then for a hell of a lot more cash the Canon 'L' lenses.
Hope this helps,
Barry

I have a Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 lens and think that it's awesome. It is supposedly designed for DSLRs. Anyway I am happy with it. I do portraits and weddings for money and wouldn't even consider not using this lens...Dean

I have the Tokina 28-70 f/2.6-2.8 AT-X Pro II and the 80-200 f/2.8 AT-X Pro. They have served me well. They're built like tanks, sharp, contrasty, and have an excellent clutch focus mechanism. I recommend them.
Taken with a Tokina 28-70 f/2.6-2.8 AT-X Pro II last month...
