These are a couple of my shots of Reba, the first model I ever shot. Please give me some creative feedback on these also. Thanks

Lovely model, lucky for you to have found someone like this to work with.
The eyes pop wonderfully, the focus is tight, the contrast crisp...
the colours however look like either
a) they have been mishandled
b) are the result of "interesting" lighting
c) are trying to do something more interesting than i am seeing here.

Yeah, there is a strong yellowish-green tint.

Hi Keith,
Nice try for a first model shoot :)
I will compliment you on choosing a model with gorgeous eyes and lips ;) I would have made her lips a little darker/saturated with lippy just to bring them out a bit more... Otherwise her makeup is quite good.
Other styling needs to be looked at though.. Her earrings are a bit strange, and dont really add anything. Her hair, whilst obviously a messy style, needs to be attended to.
As for the lighting, may I ask what you used? Was it a tungsten globe and flash? I see the hard edges on the face from the flash as well as the pinpoint in her eyes (make sure you diffuse it next time by bouncing it or using a diffuser), and the round shape of another light source in her eyes as well.. to the left ;) Mixed lighting effects will make the colours go weird, so just keep a eye on it next time.
One more thing.. I think you should do some more working with models to learn how to work with them some more.. building a repoire is very important skill to have, especially in the first few minutes... I dont know if your model was nervous, a friend, or an amatuer, because her expression in the first shot reminds me of a teenager who really doesnt want their photo taken... bored and sullen..
Keep an eye on your posing as well... the second one makes her neck look very bendy, and in the first one her left jaw looks bigger than it is because of the bunched up skin... Shooting from above is good for anyone who has any 'puppy fat' around their face as it elongates their necks and chins.. not too high up obviously ;)
Please dont think Im being overcritical, as they are nice shots, youve just got a few things to work on.. mainly the lighting. :)

My guess is, that look is intentional, probably an "Urban" PS action of some kind. Seems like a lot of people want this look lately. When it's done well it is very edgy. Otherwise, the lighting and color just looks off.

Hawkfeather, i am suprised that a guy with THAT much gear has only recently started shooting models. What have you been shooting up till now?

Hey photog..
I got my gear over the span of a year or two and I just got some suggestions from friends that I should try the model portfolio thing. I did and hopefully I can develop a great portfolio for myself with my practice and your guys' help and hints. I only recently aquired the studio to put it "all together" and be able to utilize it all. I have some older work I would like to share also...
Off to work i go!
