I know enough about strobe flash, but i was wondering about hot light portraits. given that you are working with the right temperature lights, and you have a softbox situation setup...

you can shoot the same quality portrait, right?

i know the downfalls to having the hot lights in a crowded area, ot in a wedding situation, but it seems easier to just have a foot pedal to turn the hot lights on and off. then dramatic shadows, and modeling light would not be a problem.

can any offer some insight? are these hotlights a bad idea, from a quality standpoint?

The quality is the same once you get your white balance set properly. A well positioned light is a well positioned light. The difference is the heat generated and the fact that one fires for the shot itself, the other stays on all the time.

Whether the hotlights are a bad idea or not depends on the actual hotlight.
