Has anyone used the 5D on a regular basis for stage performances. I have two sigma lenses, 28-70 and 70-200 2.8 lenses. Any feedback would be helpful.

No better low light DSLR.

you will get better low light performance with the 70-200. the sigma 24-70 tends to AF hunt in low light (a lot!). but yes, the 5D is the best low light DSLR in the market today.

how does your canon 85 1.8 do? I have been looking at purchasing one. I currently have a 20d but looking at getting a 5d.

the 85 f1.8 is one of my favorite lens! in my opinion, it has the fastest AF in my collection -- that includes the 24-70 f2.8 L!!! now thats saying something! the bokeh is very buttery and the subjects are sharp wide open (although ive read some vignetting, personally, ive never noticed it on my cropped sensors) and very sharp from f2.5 and up!

you will not regret getting this lens! i hope this helps! good luck!

5D is king of low light. I use 3200 fairly regularly, and I think it looks better than 1600 on my 20D. I actually wish there was a 6400 ISO option!

I've been shooting on stage stuff more recently with the 5d. I find that f/2 is very helpful with my 135mm. f/2.8 could work, but it would be a stretch even at iso3200 for what I have been shooting recently (small stage, low light). I have shot in a large theater and the lights were bright enough to use iso 800 and f/4

just use the 3200 ec -1 and bump it in raw trick

Do you guys ever get noise that goes horizontal on your 5d's at 3200 like mine?

Do you have an example of this noise?

On full frame, if you need more reach, the 100 f/2 is also a fast AF lens. And of course the 135 f/2L.

I recently shot a low light event with my 5D and 24-70 lens. I was able to get some decent shots with my flash and with longer exposures. However, I've noticed that in general (even in daylight), I can rarely shoot a decent exposure lower than 400 iso, even at f 2.8. Is this the lens or possibly a problem with the body?

On a bright sunny day, you should be able to shoot at f/16 with the shutter speed 1/ISO (the sunny 16 rule), so at ISO 100, you should be able to get a shutter speed of 1/100s. If you can't get below ISO 100 there is something amiss!

I learned something new, again, here. I didn't know that there would be a significant difference in the camera, as opposed to the lens. Thanks.

Greetings,
My experience of low light performance depends very much on the lens also. A f2.8 and bigger apperture lens will helps auto focus much more. Being lacked of infra red assist beam on the camera body itself, however, the camera will unable to focus when the light is really dim. I sometime used the ST-E2 flash transmitter's IR focusing beam in these situation if I don't want to use flash.
As for high ISO IQ, this is the best dslr. Hope this little info helps. Enjoy...

Can you post an example with the full EXIF info. Somewhere there is a list of lenses that have a noise problem with IS on, look for that.
