View Full Version : That pesky lens cap

I believe I finally found a solution to the fact that the lens cap of the G-3 continually falls off. Living in earthquake country I had a product called Quake Hold! to secure your small breakables.

Quake Hold! sells for $4.99 and probably sells at many hardware stores, etc. I have no affiliation with the company.

After a trip to the southern Sierras (I'd include a picture but don't know how to upload it) I thought I'd try the VERY smallest ball of Quake Hold! on opposite sides of the cover itself so that it wouldn't interfere with the lens. It might not be the perfect solution but it certainly is better than I've had in the past and as it flattens too much I reform it.

My daughter has the G2 and there is no similar problem, so why can't Canon correct this problem with the G3 and even offer to send a replacement lens cover to all registered owners. Otherwise I enjoy the G3 very much.

If anyone else has already found a better solution I'd like to hear about it.

The lens cap is loose so you don't screw up the lens mechanism when you turn on the cam with the cap still on. The best solution is to get a lensmate adapter then you can attatch any lenscap you want.

Here here, I second that. Having the lensmate 52mm adapter on my camera, I can freely carry the camera on or off without worrying about damaging the lens mechanism.

Can someone tell me where might be a good place to get one of these adapters fast and at a good price!

Is this adapter also used to mount the 2X telephoto?

Thanks!

I never bother with lens caps, not when I was shooting film, not when I am shooting digital. Just put a UV or skylight on, and leave the lens cap at home. In G3 case, you need an adapter, such as lensmate.
