Is it possible to update existing (and happily running) install of 1.3 to the current version?
Thanks,
Peter

You must be staying up late - it is almost lunch time on Saturday down here, so our lucky day must be near... :-)
Have a good one,

Here's upgrade from EE 1.3RC to EE 1.5 beta 5 (fix packs 1 and 2 included):
http://photography-on-the.net/ee/beta/EE13_to_15b5fp2.zip
A cautious upgrade should go like this:
1. As precaution, rename your current gallery folder to "X" so that visitors can not access it while upgrading.
2. BACKUP YOUR 1.3 DATABASE FIRST!
3. Backup also your add/connect.php and backup/ee_backup_prefs/preferences.php
4. If you have made any customizations backup those (backup whole EE dir if you are not sure).
5. Copy all files OVER old ones. Note that your current input folder name is not (should not be) "input", but something very personal. Copy everything from install pack's input folder to your current input folder, NOT to folder "input".
6. Check that add/connect.php has correct data.
7. Run database upgrade script: http://yoursite.com/X/installers/update13rc_to_15b5.php
8. After installer has run ok, delete it.
9. Chmod following folders to 0777:
/export
/temp
/ftp_temp
/input/temp
/input/UPLOAD
/input/UPLOAD/ee_temp_upload
10. Test that all works by going to http://yoursite.com/X/
(remember you renamed you gallery folder to X before install. If EE opens and images do not display it is normal because paths are not yet correct. Main thing is that you do not get any error messages.
11. Now you can rename EE folder "X" back to "gallery" or whatever you had it. EE should work normally.
12. Go to your input folder and click "manual" to see upload system setup instructions.
14. Set styles in style editor.
15. Check that backup/ee_backup_prefs/preferences.php has correct data.
Did I say BACKUP YOUR 1.3 DATABASE FIRST!

Hi Pekka,
Did every step until at the end I got this:
Parse error: parse error, unexpected $ in /var/www/html/X/fetchsettings.php on line 2739
Exhibit Engine MySQL error!
ERROR FROM QUERY group_links in page 'index':
------------------------------
Table 'images.ee_exhibition_group_' doesn't exist
------------------------------
I left the installation in this state waiting for your reply,
Best Regards,

Couple of points I missed in my previous post:
In your point 6 I have changed database name in connect.php to the actual image database name
I got error message executing point 10.
Cheers

Pekka,
I have tried brand new full install 1.5 beta 4 (as opposed to update) with newly created database so there is no trace to the old stuff and got the same error message:
Parse error: parse error, unexpected $ in /var/www/html/gallery1/fetchsettings.php on line 2605
Exhibit Engine MySQL error!
ERROR FROM QUERY group_links in page 'index':
------------------------------
Table 'new_images.ee_exhibition_group_' doesn't exist
------------------------------
The actual install.php ran without any errors.

Pekka

To me it looks like fetchsettings.php was damaged on upload. Try uploading it again, keep ftp program in "binary mode" this time.
If that does not help, mail me your 1.3 database dump to pekka "AT" photography-on-the.net and I'll see where the problem is.
