Hi,
My first attempt at a flower. I was up early last saturday and shot a couple of flowers. This one came out ok. I did some PP on it.(I'm new at that as well:oops:)
Let me know what you think.
Gear used: 300D with the Tamron 28-70/2.8 at F3.5 63mm ISO100 1/2000

You've got a good idea here. It's a little too saturated, in my opinion. Also, I think the picture would look better with a little darker shadows and slightly lighter highlignts. Can you manage that with your whichever software you are using for post processing?
Frame-filling macros of the interior of flowers can be very beautiful. I would enjoy seeing more from you.

Too bright and lacking contrast. Also doesn't have a clear subject. I like the idea though. :)

@unreal_nature: I will try that and post the result in here later in the afternoon. Thanks for the advice. I am new at photography and didn't pick my "speciality" yet. I'm in the progress of building my website. Once it's finished I will PM you the url. I'd be pleased if you could comment on some of the pics.
@kster: Thanks for the feedback. The reason I took the picture was the drop on the rose. As you say a clear subject wasn't there though.
Cheers,
Tom

Yes, that's a little better. Do you like it better?

Yes I like it better, but I wouldn't have done it if it wasn't for the comments, I wouldn't have found out how to improve the picture.
How do you "see" what could be done differently/better?

tomdi, "seeing" anything like that is mostly preference. And you'll note a wide variety of opinions and styles here at POTN. Personally, I like the first better than your edit for it's overall "dreamy" feel. Depending on how much processing you care to add, you could probably give it a pretty surreal feeling as well. The nice thing about a capture like this is there IS no clearly defined focal point. It's easier to be creative becuase there are no expectations from the viewer. If you have a wider picture, and saw the whole head of the flower and stem, people will draw conclusions about what it "should" look like. This way there's more flexibility before people wonder what's going on with it. :-) Just my 2 cents.

Seeing comes from knowing your camera and lenses. You see a picture the way it will 9hopefully!) come out almost subconciously, but you need a very firm grasp of the capabilities of the camera to develop this. Some people have the gift from the womb, but others like me need to work very hard on it!

I think I get what you mean.
Thanks a lot for the comments.

I personally find the rose too soft, lacking contrast and out of focus.
Doesn't work for me.
I think that macros should have a clear focus point.
