View Full Version : Extended Warranty

Just wondering... when I purchased my 10D, I found out that I should have been offered an extended warranty for a nominal fee. The dealer never offered it, and they cannot offer it now - supposedly only during the time of sale.

Does anyone know of anywhere that one can get an extended warranty on the camera? Is an extended warranty on the camera a good idea, etc?

Thanks

Not sure about in the USA, but here in the UK there is a leaflet in the 10D box that invites you to extend your one year warranty out to three years for a fee.

Might be worth having another dig through the paperwork ?

Cheers

I think Best Buy will sell you one... Not 100% sure but worth a shot.

Thanks Folks... unfortunately both B&H and Best Buy would not offer it since I didnt purchase it through them... and there was no paperwork regarding extended warranty in the Canon literature I have. I did call Canon and they also do not offer an extended warranty, however the tech I spoke to did recommend a few places, and I was able to get a 4 year extended warranty through warrantybynet.com. Hopefully I'll never need it, but after having my camera sent to the service center once already, I wanted to have some peace of mind (even though it cost me a little more).

Once again thanks for your input.

How much was it?

As an aside, I purchased my 10D with my American Express card and automatically get two years warranty.

With most of their cards, yes. They have a number of card offerings now, so I don't know what the others have or don't have.

I believe that it doubles the manufacturer's warranty up to a maximum of one year, hence the two years in this case.

For what it's worth, the superstores make a significant amount of their profits from extended warranties. In some cases, reportedly more than income on sales. Also something to think about.

Jkramer has the right amounts...

$168 for 2 Years, $220 for 4 Years (I live in OH). Kind of pricey, but what are you gonna do. It kicks in after the MFG warranty of one year... I send to them and they fix it... if they cant fix it, they send to Canon (which means they will always send to Canon - at least I hope).
