View Full Version : TWAIN (Again!)

I'm running Windows 98, and just bought a Canon A60. Everything else on my system works fine (i.e., games, Paint Shop Pro, sound, etc.)

I installed the software, including the correct TWAIN drivers.

I re-boot.

I plug in the USB cable, turn on the camera.

My computer recognizes that I have a Canon Digital Camera.

The "Add New Hardware Wizard" comes up. So far so good.

When I click next, I enter Driver Hell.

When I search for the best drivers, and specify the location:

i.e, c:\whatever\Camera TWAIN 60

I'm told that it can't find any drivers.

Yet there are six drivers there, named:

Canon.IncCAP001
Canon.IncCAP002
Canon.IncCAP003
Canon.IncCAP004
Canon.IncCAP006
Canon.IncCAP007

Likewise, when I choose the location, I don't get anything in the Camera List.

After uninstalling the drivers, re-installing and even downloading the "new" drivers from Canon, I still get nothing.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Cal

Annoying? I Have the same digital camera and i still remember what i went through to connect it to my computer... It was so confusing that i can't say exactly what i did to make it work, but after a lot of "messing around" it eventually worked...
Well to tell you the truth i don't know what problems do you encounter but i don't recall pointing any location to the "install" program about where the drivers were...
Keep in mind though that you won't get any notification whether your drivers are successfully installed or not. Also you should keep in mind that your camera will only be recognized as a hardware when you turn it on in the "preview mode".
I don't dare reinstall or even tweak the installed drivers so i can't be much of a help...maybe you should let the installer do everything by itself.
Good Luck...

Thanks, Downhill. You're right, it doesn't really help from a technical side, but it is nice to know it ain't just me.

I mean, I deserve a slap in the head for tweaking, as you call it, my software. But here I am following the manual completely, and I did allow the CD to install. Twice. Still nothing.

Can you maybe take a look in your folder when you might have your driver and see what it says? It should be in

C:\Program Files\Canon\Camera TWAIN 60

but like I said, my installer simply can't see the six files that are there...

Thanks again.

Just in case anyone is still reading, I now have it working. I'll just call it another "Immaculate Correction".

Method(?):

I installed the newest version of ACDSee, QuickTime and DirectX.

Re-booted.

Lost my graphics card on re-boot.

Re-booted again.

Graphics card back.

Plug-in camera, Windows recognizes it as usual, I hit "search" for the new driver, and this time it pulled something from the Windows Update. Driver installed, and I could transfer.

Neat. Maddening, but neat.

Thanks.
