after looking at it again, maybe I should have kept the shadow?

maybe I should have kept the shadow? Good idea. You can just select an approximate area on a new layer, feather it & fill it with black. While you're at it, if you make the canvas bigger, then you can have a bit more area at the front of the car, too.
Pretty nice job, though! Do some more!

why not talk to the owner and setup a shoot in the proper hours for the best lighting, in a location where you don't have to make a campy background like that? Sharp looking ride, make it look it's best.
As well think about taking shots from a height other than roughly 6 foot. We know how the world looks from that perspective.

campy? thanks for the insult.

would you rather I tell you it's the best shot I've ever seen and you put andy wee, easton chang, and the like to shame?

no, but you are negative in almost every post you make about others photos, and it is usually not constructive. You don't like my " campy" background, you don't like cars in grass, you don't like a certain type of wheels. But you do like out of focus cars in front of a way too busy background. Go figure... I wanted constructive criticism..

MattSEG speaks the truth. Clipping the car out like that and making a simple gradient background is pretty cheesey, even though PhotosGuy suggests it in every single post about cars.
Take that car to a cool location during optimal lighthing conditions and you'll like the results much more than a fake background I guarantee.

the first looks like a pic from an early 90's calender. Doesn't do a thing for me. I like the original a lot more but I'd recommend setting up a true photo shoot to capture it correctly.

I think the original post is a good attempt at showing a cool car and taking away a not so pleasing background. PhotosGuy's suggestions in these threads are usually about these sorts of conditions. The car is well exposed and and displays okay composition in a difficult enviroment, better to have taken the shot than not at all. The idea of doing another shoot is a good one, I think we'd all like to take photos in an ideal enviroment and have plenty of time to do it. However I'd rather have seen this car than not at all, I like NSX Honda's!
Roger.

Find a website with car wallpapers, superimpose onto said wallpaper and clone out any parts of the original car:

I removed the photos since they obviously sucked!

man you don't have to remove them. People post pics here to get criticism on their work, and hopefully improve on how they do things. Do you want to be on a forum where people praise every picture that's posted here.
Yeah criticism sucks sometime, but we're all here to help each other out. When I post, I hope people tell me what I did wrong or where my areas of improvement are...it's the only way I'm going to evolve as a photographer.

the first looks like a pic from an early 90's calender. Seen the announcement shot for the new Challenger, Fish? even though PhotosGuy suggests it in every single post about cars. I suggest trying to find the best light when we have that option. Cutting the car out is just another tool in my box, & with 65,000+ members, I'll keep lending it to anyone interested in saving a bad situation. For the few who can't be bothered in learning something new, what do you care if I post it? No one is going to make you leave your narrow comfort zone if you don't want to? I removed the photos since they obviously sucked! I wouldn't do that! As I said, "Pretty nice job, though! Do some more!" The day will come when knowing how to do that will put money in your pocket! http://photo.klein-jensen.dk/smilies/0465.gif

I was just at a show and sold 25 prints ( could have sold a bunch more if I had them) of the NSX with the "campy" background, so obviously you geniuses that thought the shot sucked need to get a clue. I have been a photographer for many years and have no probelm with contstuctive criticism, but I do ave a problem with being insulted and having my work insulted. I searched and looked at your photos on here and I could rip them part too, because a lot of them are crap. I would rather make suggestions on how to make them better, that is what this board is for. Not stupidity like "campy" or " it looks like something from a 90's calender" NOt everybody is going to like everything. There is another thread on here wher some jerk with 4 posts is ripping photosguys pics and saying that he makes an exciting subject totally boring and the borders just plain suck... what the heck is that crap? I want t change the reason I removed my pics of the NSX from " they obviously suck" to there are just too many stupid people posting negative comments. I am done ranting, lets all just try to help each other...

Please take this, and my example above as constructive:
These days, a lot of people (and on this board *most* people) know the difficulty level required to put a gradient into the background of a picture in photoshop - ie it takes 5 mins to cut the car out and 2 seconds to do a gradient fill. Sure you can still impress and sell prints to joe bloggs no problem, but around here you'll find (n my observation) people are looking for something a little bit more creative and interesting as they're perhaps a little jaded and have seen it all before (myself included).
So, with that disclaimer out the way, I have to agree that the simple gradient background did not suit the picture whatsoever. If you are going to do a backdrop from scratch I would suggest you spend some time browsing sites like www.customize.org and www.deviantart.com looking at the submissions which get 'featured' and reading the feedback people give on less inspiring works.

Maybe you are, but we get all levels of experience here. The idea is to give some help when we can. You posted some general links to examples. Better would have been if you'd included them in your first post, along with a specific link to the type of pics that address what you're referencing. Otherwise, your "help" is less than helpful, & we wouldn't want that, would we?

momentz, thanks for the links, I will check them out. Many of the pictures I see on here are of cars next to a curb or in a driveway, I was just trying to be a little creative. I post in several different genres on this board(macro, people, landscape) and I have never been insulted. Only in here with all the car "experts " do I see this kind of garbage. Lets see there was the guy that was running his mouth about how ugly a posters M5 was and almost any post with aftermarket rims gets the same people calling them ugly or "ghetto", somebodys tells a poster that he takes an exciting subject and makes it boring and his borders suck, etc... I am assuming that most of the members reading the posts and looking at the cars are late teen /barely post teen , hence the stupid remarks and the " i know everything" attitudes. I am not going to post in here anymore, because there is very little contructive criticism going on and that was my whole reason for posting..

I will post in the other sections, it is just not worth listening to all the non constructive criticism going on in here. I am trying to learn and get better and it isn't going to happen in here. There are several other members who don't post in here anymore for the same reason.

Kind of a nasty little thread going here, so I'll try not to add. daclozer, I never even got to see your images (in this section anyway). To me, haters can just kiss off, but I frankly don't see anything that's overly or intentionally harsh here. Would you mind reposting the images? Or at the least, get a Mod to close this thread down—it's way depressing with all the arguing...

you must be the sensitive type, whatever you do don't turn on the news or pick up a newspaper.... just kidding.. Look at the pic with the nsx next to the water that someone edited, I shot the car part of that. I don't want to repost the pics, sorry..
