I took this pic as Skyway was starting to move. He was helping me plant flowers....LOL! It is so real in my eyes that it is almost surreal.

There is a lot to learn yet on this Canon 300 rebel but I love it!

EDIT: His chest is sure a lot bigger now than when he went into his wheel chair 11 month ago....he can really pull me around when he has mind to it!~~~ LOL

Any post processing?? What lens did you use?

DoW-Oldman

The only thing I did to this was to open it with Xara X (my vector graphic's program) and crop it. In fact when I took it I had not even loaded up the Adobe Elements that came with the camera. The lens is the one that came with the camera 18-55mm ...at the moment it is my only lens. However, later this month ole Santa going to see me early LOL :)

This picture I took the same day. It is the first flower of a new type of hybrid Hibiscus I have. Again the only thing I did here was to crop it.

Follow up. Until I got this camera last week I had no idea of post processing. I'm still not quite sure how that works. However, I'm sure I will get around to finding out sooner or later.

Now below is the same Hibiscus, but I messed with it in my graphics program. However, I don't think that this type of re-work is what you are referring to as post processing, but I had fun with it. This is a simple 4 layer picture now. It is a little larger than the original cropped copy.

In reference to your first photo - that does look almost surreal. Its an excellent picture IMHO, but it also serves to show what great results can be had with the digital Rebel.

I think the "so real as to be sureal" effect is from everything being smooth and shinny-allmost pollished looking. There are very few fine details for the eye to latch onto.
Which lens was it?It looks rather 'sigma like'-very clean looking.I'll be rather impressed if the std 18-55 took that!

ron chappel it is the lens that came with the camera.

That picture is just a lucky shot on my part. I don't think that camera had been out of the box for more than a day when I took it!

Next, in order to learn this camera I have started the project of learning just one new step per day. Then reviewing everything on the weekend. I figure in about six months I might have a decent overall idea. Maybe in a year a understand--LOL!

Below is a link to a 2.8 meg picture. The colors in it (greens and blacks) just set me back. Plus how crisp the edges are.

Banana Plant full:

http://www.dow-mgc.org/Rayeimages/b1.JPG

A follow up to this crispness is that when I bring the 2.8 pic into my Vector program there is no de-pixilation when I blow it up to 8000%.

In my past graphic works I'm only use to seeing this kind of sharpness in a PNG format. My hat is off to Canon for this type of quality in a JPG format. Below is a picture of one of the lighted edges of a leaf. After the zoom to 8000% I crop it and then resized it to 799 x 563 so you could see what I seen.

Edge 8000%

Well it is late so I will address his story tomarrow. However, if you look back at his picture in one of my gardens you will see at the bottom his rear leg is sticking out backwards.

He will never walk again without his chair...I will say this though...we go through a set of tires in the cooler months every 60 days! That boy of mine can walk me to death LOL! Some days we make over 11 miles...phew!

He has been in his chair almost one year now....look at his chest in the garden pic and look at it in my sig pic... it is now so much larger! Believe this or not he can just about pull me to the ground when in his chair! I'm not kidding... In fact about 3 months back, one night, he caught a possum! But that is another story!

Thanks for asking!

Olds, is it possible for you to get rid of the huge graphic from your signature? Seeing it one time was one thing, but seeing it over and over and over gets very bothersome.

Bandwidth costs money.

NP Bob.... I don't care to upset your mindset--or trouble you in any manner.

However, that pic is linked off of my site and not yours or this site. The only bandwidth being used is mine not yours, or this sites. Believe me any bandwidth cost I have I can easily afford. I own three sites and my traffic at times is measured in the hundred of megs per day just in downloads. Never mind the posting boards. You really need to get a grib on what is reality. Drop your "bite" about bandwidth.

How do you address bandwidth issues with sites using Flash? Or any of the other large media on their sites? Say Java in their logo? Do you E-mail them and complain about how much of their own monies they are spending?

Are you worried about the net hitting the wall? If so, then I suggest you preach about spam and how it is now close to eating up 30% of the net resources. Now that is a cause you can get on your soapbox about and yell how it is wasting the net's over all bandwidth resouces. Shoot I would even yell with ya!

Maybe you're using one of those second tier dial up companies who charge $5 per month and so much per byte. Personally I did not know they were still around.

Of course if they are I'm bad as my personal connection runs 750KB to 1 meg up and a good 3-4 megs down. So I never give thought to second tier dial-ups of the past.

Again Me BAD! I have removed the sig pic from my profile.

Please do drop the "bite" about bandwidth till you have a clear understanding as to who is really paying the bill!

So with that said I will leave you with this:

I saw the pic of your dogs...they look great! Looks like they are after something up in the tree!

However, after I edited my profile to remove my sig pic your picture went Poofed!

Anyway again nice pups!
Olds

EDIT I just tried to hot link off of that picture's addy...no go! All I get is a empty box :(

If you need a place to upload I can give ya 5 megs of storage on either my gaming site or business site. We have a simple upload program that I can have set up with a pw that will allow you to go to your folder. The only other person who could see what is in your folders are the admin for the site(s) The only restrictions are no nudes, or mp3 files.

Let me know if you want this set up for you and I will get with my WebMaster.

Thanks for making that change.

I wish I could understand your logic. Of course, my bandwidth is at my dial-up connection, and each of your graphics had to come to me independently. As a result, I would have to wait and wait for your graphics to load here. So, you are correct that your graphics don't take any tremendous extra storage capacity, but they sure as hell do eat up bandwidth on the net. Yes, I am firmly seated in reality, and network engineering is my thing. I just wish that others understood it as well. Actually, although I admit that spam is a problem in general, it is not a big problem for me, so I do not intend to preach about it. No, I am not using a second-tier anything, and that would be obvious if you saw my email address. Now let us get back to photography.

Oh please... Quote: but they sure as hell do eat up bandwidth on the net. [/i] The only problem is your dial up at 3KB. By your apoligia anything but text is eating up your bandwidth. What you removing your temp files everyday so you get to reload an image and sites? again I quote:....each of your graphics had to come to me independently. What are you running windows 3.1?

It seems that you think I'm someone you can bullchit with. Man if you're going to address me in this area you need to go back to school. Without a doubt you look like one of those 3rd graders my wife taught who got social promotion(s) through out their education.

Network engineering? I quote you again: I wish I could understand your logic. Now maybe you can get way with stuff with those here who do not know...but you're swimming in your own soup with me. Your statments are so full of yourself that I find it laughable.

Gee if I had stated the things you have said here by stating I was an network engineer would be changing my log-on name. DOH!!!

Look Dude, you want to talk about photos that is ok. You want cry because you're dial up that is a personal problem... keep it to yourself. If you're emptying your temp files because you have a overly small h-drive that is your problem....not mine or anyone elses.

You are totally pathetic in your expressed knowledge! Go insult someone's else's intelligence. God man! You make a living at this?? I don't think so. I have good faith doubt that you do anything but deliever pizza for a living.

Honest to God you sound like someone who read a 1983 book.

Suggestion:
Why don't you two exchange email addresses and do your thing in private? It's not relevant to the forum in general or this thread in particular, and it sure isn't entertaining. As long as the two of you can snipe at each other anonymously, you're not going to make any points in this little tiff anyway, so why try?

Bob:
What did you do with that money I sent you for tact/charm lessons?

Olds:
I notice from you picture that you look a litle like Robert De Niro. Has that gone to your head? (you talking to me?) Remember, not everyone can get broadband, even in the 21st century.

In the words of my father --- take it outside, you two.

Each of his assumptions turned out to be incorrect.

Well I have to admit that the new animation s dragging my archaic Pentum266 "Tillamook" powered once top of the line now ancient history Fujitsu laptop to a standstill,... and thats over a fast DSL line...

Seriously Olds,

This sucked.

DoW - you're out of line. bob gross has been here for a long time, and I got a ton of great advice on PHOTOGRAPHY from him. You haven't, and I look forward to seeing what you got to offer. That's why I come here. So unless or until you got something to contribute to the subject matter of the forum, I would suggest respectfully that you keep your tantrums to yourself.

I must partly agree. It's the slow connection most of us have.Sure the signature pic is good,is there any way to only have it once per page or is that impractical?

robertwgross
11th of November 2003 (Tue), 19:33
If the graphic URL is in a signature line, then it appears in each instance of the signature line, even if that is five or ten times down one page. That is why I don't use graphics in that way.

Often times, one of us will post the URL of a photograph that we've shot and we need advice about what's wrong with it. Posting that URL once is fine, in my opinion, as long as the file isn't too large.

Another thing to bear in mind is, when responding to a post with an embedded photograph, the photo will be reloaded if you use 'reply with quote.'

(Another lesson I've learned the hard way.)
