Hi
Today Ive seen guy who had waistcoat with huge text "EOS" and also Canon Eos 1D Mark II , so Im wondering if Canon produce this type of waistcoats ?
I've serched internet and many photography shops and I didint find this waistcoat.
So the basic question is that If this waistcoat's are anvaible to Canon photography equimpent users if yes where this type of waistcoat I can buy ??

Whilst I understand that there's times you do want to proclaim your brand loyalty loudly, such an obvious photographic vest also screams "I'm using expensive kit". We've been talking in other threads about replacing Canon straps with third party ones, partly because they're more comfortable, but also to get rid of the big Canon logo around your neck that may mark you out to a potential thief.

I'm not going to go as far as taping over the brand on my kit (big L zooms tend to scream "expensive" anyway), but I'm certainly happier without the big Canon logo on my factory strap. I use Lowepro bags, which have relatively small logos on them (though the shape of some of my bags is rather a give-away).

As the vest you describe included a model, I suspect it was a promotional item when the 1D Mark II was introduced.

man First of all in some places this type of waistcoat is very usefull- I dont know where you live but in my country there is not popular to rub photograph :P
The second part of problem:
Some persons want to hide this (equimpent, logo etc.) other persons what to show it everyone, it depends.
Like I said if will be possibility to buy this type of waistcoat I'll do that. I have one (of course with any logo on it) and want next one beacuse of many reasons. For example when photgraph is working for some kind of agency they have logo on it, so I want to have logo of EOS. Besides the logo dont tell everyone that you have the most expensive equimpent from Canon right ? so you cant think in this way.
Also you cant think like that - if I show what I have they will rub me !!! It's redicolus, because if thief what to steal something for you he will do that. No metter what how good will you hide from him .

I suspect it was a promotional item when the 1D Mark II was introduced.

belive me it wasnt nothing introducing, that was typical work of journalist with digital camera from newspaper.

One more thing- typical thief dont know what is EOS...

What I'm saying is that I suspect the vest you saw was one Canon produced as some kind of promotional item when the EOS 1D Mark II was introduced. That's a little while ago now, as the 1D Mark IIN is out.

I don't think it's an item you can buy in the store.

In HK, some crest or logo shops have special computer controlled sewing machines that can sew those logos for you. I have seen the Polo horse, Lacoste allegator and the Hilfinger crest sewn on to $10 shirts to make it look "authentic". Buyers then pay $40 for those shirts instead $80 for genuine shirts.

Similarly, car shops sell M3 badges or Type R badges for cars to make it look fast.

I've also seen gag shops selling pants with the letters 12" printed next to the zipper.

Do you really want this type of attention?

I have no idea what a waistcoat is. This vest was provided to shooters at an event here in the states. Occasionally you see a used one for sale on ebay.

Here is an ebay vendor that sells a similar product to the one that Canon hands out at event...might be what you would like.

The seller is located in Hong Kong...not a problem for doing business with Europe. They have pretty impressive feedback. You could also check to see if they sell on ebay.uk or whatever you call it over there. Just do a search for Canon Photo Vest.....don't search for polo or waistcoat....you won't get anything valid back. Seller says he has 28 vests in stock.

Looks like a nice vest. Is the material really silk and cotton?

Woolburr

The one Canon rep gave me appears to be at least partially silk...part cotton....and I think the mesh parts are nylon...or some synthetic fabric. Lots of pockets with a flannel soft lining. Seems pretty well made, but it does clearly say Canon on the back and EOS on the front....so not good for those trying to go incognito.

LOL Yeah, no kidding. But then again, I've got this huge pro camera with a huge white lens with a red ring attached to it, and a huge flash unit that sometimes sits on top of it all, but yet I'm going to worry about the name "Canon" being visible. I don't understand people's obsession with hiding brand logos (or going overboard with overblown logos either for that matter), but I'm not one of those people who go out of their way to hide the name brand of my stuff. Like those guys who debadge their BMW ///M3s for example. It's like "Well, if I take off the BMW and ///M logo nobody will notice that I have this killer car with a bulge under the hood, quad exhaust pipes, 18" ltw forged rims, ultra-wide performance tires, low riding race suspension and a stock body kit to die for." I guess those same people buy Tommy Hilfiger shirts and hide or cut out all the little Tommy Logos too! LOL!!! Anyway, thanks for the ebay link, Dan. I just ordered one. ;)

BTW, if you're a logo hider, I don't mean to offend. It's just my personal opinion. If I hurt your feelings I'll buy you a beer.

AND before you go on about how I could've saved money and got a POTN vest while supporting the site, I've purchased a POTN neck strap already and have donated additional money to the site via PayPal. Thanks!

AND if you're under 21 don't even think about claiming your beer prize. Unless of course you're from a country that doesn't have an age limit, in which case I'll gladly buy you your beer of choice if I ever find myself sulking in your neck of the woods.

No logo hiding for this kid...I'm not ashamed of what I own, nor am I really fearful of some little street punk that wants to play graba**....Like you said...kind of hard to disguise 1Dmk2n with a big white red-ringer dangling off the end. I don't use the Canon straps because they suck...not because they make you a target.

Once you get over on the right side of the country, I might even buy you a beer. As long as you can handle some good Canadian stuff.

A couple people from one of the camera clubs I belong to got vests from that ebay link....they seem to be the same as the vest I got from Canon...I forgot to mention that part...they were also happy with the price and the shipping...so it should be ok.

btw, Dan, I hope you don't think those last three remarks I made were aimed at you. It was intended for the poor souls that have to listen to my personal rants from time to time. And I will be taking you up on that beer offer if I'm in town. I've got some good friends in the Special Operations community assigned to Fort Bragg. ;)

I get over in that neck of the woods on occasion...my sister lives about 10 minutes from Bragg. I'm safely over 21 and ex-military too...so I can have that beer.

Funny you should post this question, dude. I purchased the vest from an ebay seller from Hong Kong on 4 Aug. The vest shipped the following Monday on 7 Aug. The first delivery attempt was made on 21 Aug, but I wasn't home to receive it. I just picked it up from the post office this morning. Essentially, it took over 2 weeks to get my "waistcoat", but I'm very pleased with the end product. Definitely quality stuff here. Material is of silk and cotton blend, padded shoulders and pockets, perfect fit, etc. There are plenty of pockets to put accessories that would've otherwise overloaded my 75 AW with attachments. Overall, very pleased with the vest and would recommend it to anyone who doesn't have Canon-Logo-Phobia. Can't wait to try it out in the real world. ;)

Hello, just so you know, Waistcoat is the English term for it, Americans call it a vest... but I guess you've figured that out now.

I think waistcoat is a more formal thing, more like a tuxedo without arms :D

I'd never call that a waistcoat, but I would call it a vest!

I suppose in the classical sense of the term waistcoat you are correct.
I'd generally call it a waistcoat but that could be because i'm from a backward town in Mid Wales :)

The British use of vest usually refer to something you wear as an under garment.. like a thermal vest.. something worn next to the skin. using Vest in this sense is more of an Americanism.

Perhaps it could be called a puffa jacket without the puff :)

canon had a corporate store that you could buy all kinds of tings from, never saw a vest, but they had actual coats and polos and desk items, golf sets etc. The Link I had for it died though

I have no idea what a waistcoat is.
Imagine the language divide if Canon produced suspenders :)

Whilst it's your prerogative to use your country's version of english, perhaps you might go easy on those who choose to use the parent tongue.

What do you think of the vest quality ?
Are all the pockets... useful ? Is the vest confortable, not too hot ?
