I may travel to the UK for the weekend of Aug 19/20.
Are there any airshows this weekend within a reasonable distance of the Stanstead airport? I will not be renting a car so I will be limited to public transport (rail preferred).
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
ps. I am also hoping to attend the Spitfire anniversary show at Duxford in September, should I pay for the friends of Duxford VIP access?

here's a question for those in the UK, what's the best airshow in general in the UK?
By in general I mean ones that feature both new and old aircraft.

Tough one, for military shows it has to be RIAT at Fairford for the Old stuff Flying Legends at Duxford is top of the list as for the show that has a good mix i would say the shows at Shoreham and Biggin Hill are tough to beat and most seaside events are well mixed too.

Would have to say RIAT at Fairford and if you are into both commerical and military then Farnborough.

Farnborough is a waste of time and living on past reputation in my opinion. Yes it still is a big show but they have become way to safety concious. This year there were hardly and fast passes and the base height was 600ft and the display line seemed like miles from the crowdline. Where as at a normal show the base height is down to the pilots DA rating and 100m from the crowdline.

Yes, the one in "04 was a waste too! I was in England at that time...most disappointing! RIAT was cool though, given a chance, I'd do that again. I wonder what the Paris Air Show is like as they alternate between Farnborough and Paris. Now that might be worth doing! Oui, je parles francais aussi!
