Havent seen one of these threads in a couple hours, thought it was about time for one.

I am looking for a bag that will last a lifetime. No price requirements, within reason. $300 is within reason.

I have heard good words on the Billingham bags, and some ok words on the Domke stuff.

Key requirements in order of importance:
Durable
Configurable interior
Way to mount tripod to it for carrying

I've got pretty much the same setup as u, 350D with grop, 2 flashes and then a strong of lenses. what i've done is purchase two bags.

Firstly a Crumpler Long Schlong for when i'm taking my camera out n about, and secondly a Lowepro Reporter 500 AW (bought of a fellow POTNer).

The Lowepro is good, but realistically i wasn't going to carry that gear with me all in one go so i use it to store my lenses and flashes without taking a lot of space. To help, the Lowepro has padding inserts for each of my lens, so I know things are a nice and safe.

I'm in the same hunt. The Crumplers are too floppy and don't provide much protection, the Domkes I've seen are similarly flimsy, and the Lowepro/Tamrac/etc are too stiff and camera-case like. I use a photobackpack and a Haliburton to store my gear, but not suitable to take a small outfit along. I think I've narrowed it down to the Billingham 335. I have a Bilingham that I used for my Contax G3 and two lenses and it worked great. Very high quality but discreet.

My Billingham 445 fits a 1D2 with 20-35L; 28/1.8; 50/1.4; 100/2.0; 80-200L; 550EX; 580EX and small stuff. Even when leaving the 50-500 out, I think you'd get a tight fit. So the only ones that might fit, are the 555 or 550. Might get too heavy to carry comfortable.
