cable release ?

i own a cable release from my old film camera, it works with my 350d but i was wondering if it is possible to get one with a longer cable or an extension cable ?
i sometimes use my monopod as an extension of me to take photos from higher up (looking over people, chain link fence etc)
i am looking for something with about 1.5 m (5 feet) of cable.
also - is it hard to mod my cable release to do what i want ?
my cable release is an RS60-E3

Pick up an extension cord for stereo mini-headsets at your local radio/sound store. Here it'd be Radio Shack. Or make one - a mini-stereo plug, inline jack, and 3-lead wire (needn't be coax/shielded).
