I'm looking to buy either the 680B or 681B, not sure which to get. I plan on getting the 486RC2 for whichever monopod I buy. The monopods are the same price on B&H. I use a 30D w/grip and heaviest lens being the 70-200mm f/2.8 IS (also use 2x extender at times). My first use of the monopod will be for a baseball game later this month. I shoot mostly portraits but I'd like to have a monopod around. My tripod is the 488RC2/3021BPRO. I think I'm leaning toward the 681B for the extra height and weight support.

680B
Max height: 60.0"
Load capacity: 22.0lbs
Fold length: 20.0"
Sections: 4
Weight: 1.70lb

681B
Max height: 63.4"
Load capacity: 26.4lbs
Fold length: 26.4"
Sections: 3
Weight: 1.70lb

The decision will really depend on two things. First, how tall are you? Second, can you afford the extra six inches of length when the monopod is collapsed for carrying?

I'm 5' 10" tall, and find the 680B/486RC2 combination ideal. Remember that the ball head adds a few inches to the height and that the viewfinder is also above the mounting point for the camera by several inches.

Well Skip,

Im only 5'7" so I guess the 680B would be a better option? So the 22lbs load capacity should be fine for what I mentioned?

I took your advice and purchased the 680B. Thanks again.
