I need to find the "best" cataloging software available. I wish to look through all of my pictures (thumbnails) and be able to attach a rather large # (10 or 20) of ID markers to them so I can locate them by any description. I other words if I entered "wedding" I would get all the pictures in stock on anyone that has anything to do with a wedding. If I entered "wedding" and "Smith" the computer would return all thumbnail pictures that concern the Smith Wedding. Boolean logic capability would be a major plus. The program would have to be cognizant of all the pictures I own and where the heck I might locate them. PLEASE help me with this since I am totally confused with all that's out there. I would also like a program that would enable me to use all of the hard work involved on a future web page. (I currently own Photoshop if this means anything)
Thank you so much,
George J. Dagis

Check out Extensis. They have a lot of the things that I think you want. It is a little expensive but it is very nice. I don't have the new software, but I did get Extensis Portfolio 5 with the purchase of Digital Camera Magazine earlier this year; I like it quite a lot. Here is the link: http://www.extensis.com/
They have RAW support for Canon.

Haven't tried it extensively myself, but I believe Adobe Photoshop Album would do what you seek. (Not sure how easily it incorporates what it does into webpages or not.)
Believe ACDSee 6.0 also tried to incorporate tagging features, but would *not* recommend their product beyond the 5.xx series (which does not do tagging).

George,
You don't mention whether you are PC or Mac. If it's the former, the two packages I think you should check out are:
- iMatch from www.photools.com, and
- ThumbsPlus from www.cerious.com
iMatch is a very powerful product, but with a very steep learning curve. T+ is more more acessible (not just because the default database is MS Access :) ). I own iMatch, but stopped using it in favour of T+. Both products have a full version for a time-limited evaluation.

I don't use any of this kind of software myself but have noticed FotoAlbum (from www.fototime.com ) - it's FREE but still looks quite comprehensive.
It does have some web capabilities but I'm not sure how much they are tied into Fototime's fee-based web services.
IMO It's worth a look though seein' as it's FREE.
