This might be a stupid question but I have a s110 and Ive heard that leaving the battery in the camera all the time runs it down some, does it?

if its a NiMH battery it'll slowly drain away even if just sitting in a battery case.

most batteries do lose their charge over time.

i might as well take risk of losing the charge than missing a shot of a precious moment.

NiMH and Lithium batteries loss charge over time. Its farly fast too. About 5-10% per month (the last 30% goes much faster). It dosen't matter if its in the camera or not. I would expect a fully charged properly functioning battery to have at least 50% charge at the 3 month mark. You'll only a have about 20-30 shots of life using the flash, LCD, and zoom. Also, its good to recharge NiMH and lithium batteries often and fully. The batteries do not like to be run down to no or low charge or operate in high temperatures.

The old NiCd were the best at holding a charge. But they had other problems that make them a lesser alternative when compared to Lithium.
