View Full Version : No way to use hyperfocal with LCD closed?

I'm pretty sure that I know the answer to this already, but is there any way to set up the G5 for manual focusing and have the LCD closed?

I really like to use the viewfinder (even obscured as it is) and have set up a hyperfocal mode with my C1 and C2 settings, but if I close the LCD or never open it in the first place the manual focus is lost and the mode is ruined.

Is there any way of having manual focus stick around even though the LCD is closed?

jrex,
This is a very good question which I had not considered until you asked it, as I use the LCD most of the time. I actually tested it out and I believe you are correct.
When I opened the LCD and set the camera to C1 the manual focus is fully operational. But when I closed the LCD the camera reverted to autofocus. Even when I reopened the LCD (with the camera still set on C1) the camera did not recognize the manual focus setting until I left the C1 mode and returned to it.
If you will note there is no provision for manual focus on the display panel (top of camera) so it appears that closing the LCD disables any ability to use manual focus. Sorry, but it sounds like you are out of luck if you want to use the hyperfocal with the LCD closed.

Regards,

G
