I am looking for a Light Weight set of legs to go with a Manfrotto 488RC2 head. I will be using it with 400mm f5.6 + tc and other lighter gear. What do you recommend?
Thanks
Roy C.

I've had a few tripods, looked at many including the top models to around £250 and decided on this one (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=164099&highlight=condyk)
Check for Amvona on ebay, this is my bid (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7608328225&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOIBSA:UK:11), and then just keep bidding until you catch one at the right price. I bought the kit, but you can get the legs separate.

What do you reccomend? What would be your specification for "light weight"? You are not going to find a featherweight tripod that will be sturdy (stable) enough for a long slow lens (like what you describe) except in the absolute brightest lighting situations.
The absolute minimum that I would suggest is the Bogen/Manfrotto 3021BPro (055 ProB outside the U.S.). The carbon fiber version - twice the price or more - gains you less than a pound difference in weight.

Thanks for the info Skip, I guess I mean the Lightess weight tripod that would 'do the job'. The Manfrotto ProB cost under half of my budget so I can afford to get something a little better - even if it is carbon fiber.

Gitzo 1325? Might be out of budget however.

Feasol CF pods. Not as light as Gitzo, but not as expensive either. If you can spring for a Gitzo, nothing like it.
My 1228 just spent a few days in the Himalayas, and even supported a 500/4 + TC on a FOBA head and with a Sidekick.
