I have just acquired Cs and am mind-blown by its power and simplicity.

Despite attempting to caibrate my PC Laptop monitor using Adobe Gamma I always get blues rendered on my i950 as puple and have tried to reduce the blue tint on the Camera Raw slider to conteract this with some success. I have tried using threshold and curves to establish the darkest, lightest and mid tone points but this seems to aggravate the problem.Has anyone any idea how this can be done more effectively? Any tipw would be much appreciated.

Also for those who have more experience with CS, sharpness default is 25. What do people find is the average optimal shapening in Camera Raw?

Lastly, has anyone established an appropriate work flow for this new photoshop product?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Yup, isn't CS great?

I doubt you will be able to calibrate a laptop screen well enough to do accurate colour corrections (but what do I know?), can you plug another monitor into it? I used to work like this with a PowerBook, and the PB screen was great for all the palettes...

I would also recommend a hardware monitor calibration set-up, some people insist on printer/paper profiles as well, but so far I've been happy with Epson's canned profiles. If you do want to adjust your images to your printer on a non-profiled system I do strongly suggest you make all corrections with adjustment layers, so you can easily change them in the future, when you have a different printer and monitor set-up.

Sharpness; default in ACR is quite mild, leaving room for further sharpening later in the workflow, but of course a lot depends on the image. I have been using it right across the range, and reckon 25 is a good starting point most of the time.

Workflow: Still early days, biggest improvement is the combination of the browser and ACR. The browser in 7.0.1 still used to crash PS too often for my liking, and the new one has lots of improvements. Overall, I think the workflow changes for me will be in the photo edit/input more than adjustments/retouching.

I'm still working on my workflow (as I'm sure others are).

However, although I find the browse and RAW import to be great and very fast, I am actually not doing that much work in there. Mainly white balance adjustments only but the occasional tweak of exposure. I find the 25% sharpening also to be a good starting point.

Once into CS proper, it is the usual stuff, retouching, levels and curves, spend three hours messing with filters, revert (:)) and then USM followed by a save and/or print.

I'm still finding stuff out about Photoshop everyday and I've been using it for must be now five years. :)

I used to use Canon FVU to convert from RAW to TIFF and then load in PS7. Overall, I'm finding that my output has improved maybe 50% overnight with the arrival of CS.

Cheers
