Kansas City Photography Meet - September '06

After a very successful and fun August Meet, it's time to plan one for September!
Due to scheduling conflicts, we're CANCELLING this meeting. We'll reschedule in the next few weeks.

Count me in! My first choice would be the zoo, but it's sooooo huge we'd never see each other again once we left the front entrance. I'm up for whatever though.

A plaza fountains/architecture shoot at night would be nice. Perhap the Liberty Memorial and Union Station. We should be available in the evenings. Saturday (24th) is Liberty's Fall Festival and I will be busy there till mid-afternoon. Otherwise we'll be at the meet.

Personally, my schedule dictates a September 23-24 meet OR one that's in the evenings during the week of the 4th. I could possibly do the week of the 18th, but I'm hoping to be swamped with orders from the previous four days of events. :)

I like the Plaza/Downtown/West Bottoms shoot in the evening. I haven't gone solo simply due to safety concerns, but with a large group, I don't forsee that being a problem. I'm thinking we could meet for dinner around 6-7, start shooting at 7-8, and finish up by 10pm at the latest since I think all of us have jobs to get back to in the morning!

First of all I want to say it was a real pleasure to meet all of you. I look forward to our next meet.

I like a lot of the pictures that were posted. In particular I liked Erik’s “Girl on Steps” & the “Photographer under the Birdie” shots. Also Erik thank you for the group shot … I am sorry my eyes were closed. Leere did a nice job on the “Headless Sculptures” shot and used the sky real well. I like Viodea’s first shot with all the differing shapes & the fact that you were able to produce so many consistently good images. Huskies “Thinker” is real well done and you obviously know your post production. Joekr’s birdie view is a unique perspective & to answer your question no, I for one don’t think you posted too many. Great job to all, it’s cool to see all the variety.

Here are a few images I took. This is the first time posting like this so I hope I am doing it right. I am posting them on this thread because I figured the other thread is probably dead or dying. Please correct me if I am wrong to do so.

I did some variations of the “Gallery of Art” shot to see which one you all might like best (if at all). I don’t always PhotoShop so much but I thought these images could use more impact. Seeing all the art that day may have got me feeling a little artsy. This is also the first time I’ve framed photos for the net. I am not sure if this is an enhancement or a distraction. What do you think? The last shot of Kaufman Stadium I shot the night before our meet but I thought you might enjoy it.

Since we'll only have a couple of hours, I suggest meeting and eating close to the place that we plan on shooting so that we can walk to the locations. Alternatively, at the very least, we should drive to a single spot and not try to pile 12-15 of us into cars, follow each other, and get parking spots near 2-3 locations.

For a downtown shoot a Friday or Saturday night will have alot of traffic to contend with. Tuesday should be fairly sparse in terms of people.

And yes, I am breaking in a new iMac (intel) with an Epson R1800 printer. The printer was doing great with the "old" computer, but I am having some calibration problems with the new computer. The prints are a little dark now. Still experimenting.

RE: Meals.
I'm not too particular, but thought for the sake of the various budgets we'd try to keep it less than $20 total (each person , not the group :)

RE: What to shoot.
I think it's a choice between the Plaza and Downtown. The Plaza can be perceived as 'safer' if that's a concern for anyone. There are fountains and what not to shoot, but quite a bit of people and commericial entities. Downtown is a bit more open and more 'raw' so to speak.

OK, good but inexpensive. The Grand Floon has enough room for us to sit together and isn't to expensive for dinner (should be able to get out for less than $20 with tip). How about it?

As I watched the show on Saturday, I had the words from a country song "having too much fun" running thru my brain all day.

I shot a tremendous number of images. I'm glad I went down Friday for practice so I knew the routine for Saturday.

The Plaza is going to be packed on a nice Fall Saturday night. Although I'd love to eat that, I'm concerned about getting a large group inside in a reasonable amount of time, not to mention parking! :)

There is a Winsteads, Gates, P Otts, and California Pizza Kitchen, for fairly inexpensive fare. Any other suggestions?

Turns out that this past weekend was the Plaza Art Show, there were people everywhere! We figured it was best not to try and shoot pictures, as crowded as the Plaza was.

Hopefully the next meet works out better!

Sorry to hear that we had so many last minute cancellations (including myself). I'll post up a late October meet and check the interest. We might postpone official meets until Spring if turnout remains low.
