Is it REALLY so hard to paint it BLACK??? I mean, why does it have to be silver? What's next downstep? Purple with yellow dots with a word in big fat all-caps letters saying AMATEUR? :)

I honestly don't mean to be offensive or flaming or anything, but I just wonder, why does a camera that is not intended for a professional HAVE TO BE silver. Perhaps so that you might wan't to consider the more expensive 10D just because of the black finish, so nobody would rise an eyebrow as with 300D it would be 'so obvious' that you can't really afford a 'serious' D-SLR?

Also, I absolutely refuse to call 300D a 'Digital Rebel'. At least until the 10D gets a similarly fancy nickname like 'Renegade' or 'Schnapps' or 'Maverick'.

I have to read this AFTER I bought the chrome spray paint for my 10D

Sorry man but 300D = Rebel... and that's why it's silver. I don't really think it's about "affording" a 10D. I can afford one if I wanted it but just couldn't justify the $500 or so difference when I am still learning all there is to know about it!! I'd rather get over the color and have $500 more toward some good lenses or other accessories!

The Rebel has been the low in end name in the USA since the beginning.

It's silver. Get over it.

Yeah I keep waiting for the first Drebel paint-it-black hack job like the hack job on the S-lens.

Just get out there and shoot and show us all how amazing that camera really is. It seems we see more whining about the Drebel than actual output from the camera. I have seen some absolutely amazing shots. You should be happy you have such an awesome, state-of-the-art, consumer dSLR.

In fact, here is a shot here: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=19924

That shot is awesome! And shot with one of those silver cameras. If this guy wiped out the EXIF info and all other photo/camera information you'd think this was a 1Ds shot.

You mean the 1Ds isn't just a silver 1D?

Maybe I really do want one then.

Thos.

Okay, gang, it took a few hours, and I won't know if it still works until the paint dries, but here it is ---

The silver 10D!!!

Eat your hearts out.

Wow, I occasionally think I have whinged about some things, but you've just made up my mind that I was nowhere near.

It almost seems like the pro look is more important to you than taking photos.
Hmm, maybe I should get a G2 or G5 instead of my G3, so that people don't laugh at me.

I have to side with karusel here - looks DO matter. Especially when you're forking over a lot of money for something like this. Unfortunately manufacturers know this so you see the same phenomena in cars, computers, etc. Although I'm on the fence between buying the 300D and the 10D, I'll probably go for the Rebel. (I'm more stingy than conceited I guess - or perhaps more financially challenged.) I also know, however, that every time I go to pick up my 300D, I'll cringe slightly and think, this thing really does look cheap.

How about buying the camera case that Canon sells on its website. That way you can clothe your camera and thus hide its shameful appearance from all of those other, more fortunate, camera owners. (Just a thought.)

Great job, belmondo, it's just lost about $600 of value. :) :)

Anyway, guys, it's really not like I don't give a sh*t about image quality and other specs, just as long the camera looks pro. But it IS annoying. The silver finish btw doesn't go well with white L lens. However, I'm still about 90% certain to buy the 300D since, really *sigh*, how could I possibly forgive myself paying almost double price for a few annoying trifles...

Good idea mutepoint! :)

Seriously? Tell me this is the work of Photoshop, and not actually a real paint-job? :-P And if it is. WHY? Just to show the 300D-owners that it isn't about the looks, or do you actually find the silver-look better than the original black?

Can I also get the 10D in hot pink? Hey, if they can create aftermarket face plates for cell phones, why not for the 10D? Just think of the possibilities! A face plate to make the 10D look like a Rebel or to make my Canon look like a Nikon! How about a faceplate that looks like my face! An American flag? Camoflage!

I've said and done some pretty stupid things in my life, but painting a 10D would be a new low. I can assure you both my 10D's are still quite black. What you see is about 5 minutes worth of fiddling in PS which could have done even faster except for all the giggling.

And yes, I suppose I do think all the fuss about whether the Drebel is silver, black, or any other color is an absolute waste of emotional energy. We can get pretty silly about these things to the point of being downright stupid. I remember when Canon brought out the all black version of the AE-1. It really looked 'cool,' and I had to have one, so I plunked down a fair amount of cash and bought one. Understand, I had an almost-new chrome AE-1 in my bag that was functionally identical.

I don't know --- maybe I really am stupid enought to paint a 10D silver.

Opinions please.
Black cameras are so boring, and silver cameras are so pedestrian.
Should I do the Battery Grip in a complimentary color or leave it this way? What about my 550EX?

And what should I wear? I don't have a single thing that goes with this shade of red.

Photography is so difficult.

Wow, it looks surprisingly good. Now that's what Rebel should be like (maybe just a shade or two darker). A Red Rebel, to be precise. And you have to admit the name has a good sound... :)

Some time ago I was shooting some aquarium shots with a film camera and my Gitzo tripod. Unfortunately, it is gray and, more unfortunately, I saw its legs in the glass and potentially in my shots. I wrapped it in matte black electricians tape. Problem solved. It also cut down the heat transfer I used to experience when handling it outside on a cold winter's day.

I suppose one could do the same thing to the Rebel if it really was a problem. But I'm happy with my new Rebel as it is. As a Nikon shooter for many years I realized that none of my Nikkor lenses will work on Canons. So I decided to build up my lens arsenel before worrying about a body upgrade. I think the Rebel is ideal for getting my feet wet in digital photography. I can take advantage of each L lens as I get them and eventually I'll be ready for a 1DS or whatever may be offered by then.

Changing from the Nikon to the Canon system was no small consideration for me. I had a ready stable of Nikkors I could use with a Nikon Digital. But I just couldn't get over the feeling that Canon had more advanced digital products. I still feel that way, at least until Nikon decides that full frame, high pixel count sensors make sense after all.

Wow. A red D10. You may be on to something. I remember seeing pictures of a Leica body called the Luxus. It had gold hardware and a green lizard leather covering. I thought it was just awful. But a few nuts undoubtedly bought them and placed them a glass collectors showcase. I'm convined there is a market for almost any excess.
