As noted down the page, I've been having trouble loading the drivers for the Powershot A60. I've installed, uninstalled (using the directions on the Canon webpage to the letter), and re-installed.

After re-booting, I plug in the camera to my USB port, turn it on, and my system recognizes it as new hardware, and searches for the drivers. It can't find them either automaticallly, or by browsing to the folder with the drivers in it (and I've been to the Canon driver download page - these are the latest). My Intel USB driver test app says my system and my USB port are working ok.

Still, it tells me it can't find it.

Now, reading the fine print, it says that the camera will only work with a pre-installed version of windows. I've re-installed Windows 98SE at least twice since I've got this system.

So, if this is the problem, why.

And if so, what can I do about it? I'd really, really REALLY prefer to NOT have to install a whole new OS for a camera?

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Cal.

It seems to me that when I recently installed win98SE and my Canon software on a new drive, that I had to first install the the drivers before plugging in the camera or it will not work. Of course, I did it wrong the first time and had to uninstall the usb driver and then (I think) reinstall the driver and then plug in the camera. Now that I think about it, I believe I went into the device manager and removed the usb device(I could look into it a bit more if you want). But I don't plug the camera in usually and use a card reader instead. If you use a card reader it doesn't matter if the camera usb driver is installed correctly (or incorrectly).

I really don't like plugging the camera into the usb. I have a Belkin usb hub and plug my scanner and printer and graphics tablet(when I use it) into the hub; the card reader is plugged into the second usb port on the computer.

About the pre-installed os: doesn't matter. You can install the win98 as many times as you want and the Canon software along with it and it will work. It is just installing the driver that seems way too confusing, but it will work.

I have an s30 but it makes no difference. If I didn't address your question, maybe I can make another attempt. I've done this a number of times but never the easy way.

Thanks for the help.

Turns out that whatever was wrong, it has been fixed. Not sure what I did, but I'll chalk it up to another "immaculate correction".

I had uninstalled quite a bit of software in the off chance that there was a conflict, and I've be re-installing.

Last night, I re-installed (actually, I downloaded the newest trial version) of ACDSee (graphics viewer). For some reason, it suggested the newest version of Quicktime and DirectX. So, I downloaded, installed, re-booted...and my graphics card went missing!

Re-booted again, graphics card came back, and I re-tried the camera. This time, when I searched for the driver, it found it (Windows update this time). Loaded automatically and voila! Transfer complete.

Thanks again.
