Here is my first studio pic (using my new 24-70L on my 10D)

What do you think? It isn't perfect, but hey, it's my first try...

It seems a bit dark and lacking contrast. I feel like I'm peering through fog or really dirty glasses :)
I like the pose, but I must say that I'm not that competent at the aesthetics side of things.

Edit: Either you've fixed that image up a bit or my eyes are being stupid. It seems better now.

How cute!! :) How old is the baby? How did you have your lighting set up?

WOW

Superman Jr. or Nappy Man?

What was your lighting configuration, and what 'darkroom' processing did you apply?

L glass is what the 10D needs to really twinkle.

Thanks guys for the compliments...

I used a poor man's lighting setup...

1 550 ex
1 420 ex
1 ste2
1 white sheet from Jo-Anne's fabric

I put the 550 to the right of the baby, and the 420 above his head.

I did lots of blurring of the white sheet because is was wrinkled, and daddy was too tired to iron. (That's why I accidentally blurred his fingers a bit.)

Take care,

Rob

I've been looking at this picture ever since you first posted it, and there's no question it's very good. I'm sometimes a little slow on the uptake, though, and there was something about it that just detracted from the overall quality (albeit slightly).

Now that you mention that you did a lot of blurring on the background, that tipped me off to what was troubling to my eye: the little guy looks like he's flying, or more exactly, parts of him are 'floating' above the backdrop. In other words, I think the picture could be improved a little just by leaving some of the texture of the sheet in the picture. It establishe a spacial orientation that allows the viewer to concentrate on a very cute little baby.

The color could maybe be just a little 'warmer,' too.

Very good picture.

Note: as I've said many times in the past, "I don't know what I'm doing, so don't listen to me."

Great points Tom...stuff I really hadn't thought about. It does look like he is flying. I don't think I realized that because I saw the original, and I had a sense of the perspective.

Thanks again!
