I have the need to take pics with my new Powershot A70 in a fairly high resolution as I sometimes need to produce good high quality prints. However my main aim is to display the pics on a webpage for publishing on my company intranet. I have to take approx 100 at a time. At the moment I copy them into a word document and then save as a webpage. This causes problems with my PC though, as the file size of the high res pics is very large. Is there an easy way of producing a low res pic from a high res without having to first open the high res pic on the PC ??????

I would suggest using a program that will batch process your images without opening each one on your PC. Paint Shop Pro will perform a batch process and reduce the images' size. Irfanview will also perform this function. Irfanview is highly regarded, free and works very well in my experience. The batch processing will not only resize the image, but gives you options to crop, set color depth, set DPI, and a host of other sharpening and brightness functions. Go to: http://www.irfanview.com/

I use ACDSee 5 for this purpose - it will batch resize, allowing you to set a maximum dimension in both height and width, as well as batch rename which is handy.

And remember when you resize, you'll need to apply some sharpening to the pictures, otherwise they may look a little fuzzy on your website. Also, to reduce size, you can compress the .JPG about 10-20% without that much loss in detail and get files that are 1/2 to 1/4 in size of the original uncompressed file.
