I'm new to this forum...so, long time listener, first time call er sort of thing.
My question is this, when you partially press the shutter button, the internal electronics come on...metering and so forth. But they only stay on for about 3-4 seconds. Then you have to repeat the process. Isn't there a setting that I can change that will allow me to see the information in the view finder for a longer period? (I'm an underwater photographer...so my world is a little bit more...lets say....dynamic. And even a few more seconds of displayed information means the world to me)
I'm using a Digital Rebel
Thanks

keep the shutter half way depressed, easier said than done underwater, but its the key

Yeah, I've got the"keep it half way pressed" practiced....but as you mentioned, easier said then done (lol). I was hoping there was a configuration setting that I may have overlooked. Or a programmed feature that I could add.

Is it possible to use the custom function 4-1 on your camera? That function pretty much rids of holding the shutter button half-way. I'm not sure if you can use it through a housing though (no clue since I've never used a housing in my life), or if that camera allows it.

Yes, I can customize. I do have access to all the buttons and functions underwater. OK, I'll read up on how to set this up.
Hmmm, well see.....

Ok here's some background behind it: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showpost.php?p=292709&postcount=6
What you want to do is set AE-lock to the shutter (this is actually optional, but its what custom function 4-1 does), and set the AF-lock to the * button. In this case it would seem to help quite a bit, it's easier holding AF using your thumb and not worrying about "half-pressing" the shutter and accidently trip the shutter while you're moving.

Interesting....ok, I'll have to play around with that. Ok, I'll tell you how it goes.
Thanks
