I am starting to add more items to my equipment list and it is becoming costly, should I insure them? Is there a difference in insurance for pro and non-pro?

I have checked out the price and coverage from 2 companies. The first one is about $2 per $100 and does not cover damage casued by me, but has no deductible. The second company has the rate of $1.25 per $100 and does cover damage cause by me, but not sure about deductible.

If you have insurance for your equipment, what kind of coverage do you have?

I currently have a personal articles policy from state farm, about 200 a year for ~16k, no deductible, covers basiclly anything. however, if you profit at all from your work, the rate doubles atleast. they also don't cover you out of the USA. so watch the policy closely.

whatever you do don't tie it to your homeowners, you don't want to have those rates go up or be dropped.

If you want full business insurance, including liability coverage (incase lil johnny tripod on your tripod at hurts himself or your flash burns down a church etc) and reshoot coverge etc, check out Tom Picard's Group Insure (www.groupinsure.com). thats where I'm headed very soon

I've insured mine. I didn't shop around so I may be paying too much, but at least I'm covered. One of these days I'll have time to call a few insurance companies and get a better price (when I'm not too busy taking pictures lol )

Yep, mine's insured. I've been burglarized once, and I had insurance then. It's well worth it.

I don't usually have more than $4-5k with me, though. I don't normally carry everything !

I have checked with State Farm Insurance and they offer good rate on non-pro insurance, but they don't have pro photog policy. Can someone recommend a company or an agent for business coverage on photo equipment? At the moment I don't need full package of all the liability coverage, just need to cover the equipment.

intresting, must be an office by office thing, as my agent would sell it. I'd still go over to group insure (www.groupinsure.com (http://www.groupinsure.com)) and wee what they can offer to you. Its all customized to your needs

I carry most of my equipment with me on wedding days, i'd have to be mad to not be insured.

I have all of my camera gear insured with Farm Bureau. Costs me $35.00 a year & covers anything that happens to it with a $250.00 deductible.
I also have all of my computers covered, too. In fact, we just got a check for my son's laptop that was injured when dropped. No hassles at all. The hardest part was finding something close to the same to get an estimate.

You better check again, my equipment and liability insurance is through State Farm.
