View Full Version : A moment of madness? I don't think so!

I've just got to announce to the group that in what might be argued by some as a moment of madness I have just bought Photoshop CS - and being on a mere cop's wage is not a small amount to shell out, believe me! More evidence of my possible insanity comes from the fact that I have legitimate access to my camera club's Photoshop 7!

But having played with it on a friend's computer (who is a pro press photographer and can afford a Mercedes) I was totally amazed at the improvements Adobe have put into CS - particularly towards digital photographers. It arrived tonight, I've already activated and registered it, and will be spending the next 20 hours preparing my pre-arranged talk to the club.

As someone said on an earlier thread about CS - "If you don't have CS, run don't walk to whereever you can get a copy." I'll second that despite the alleged madness!

Cheers,
Barry

Wow,. I don't think I have EVER heard of a PS upgrade that was that different from the last version....

I am truly curious!

Unfortunatley I only JUST upgraded to 7 and the RAW plug in a few short months ago. I believe I will have to ,. as ever.. remain "Behind the Curve"

If you got the plugin, I wouldn't be too excited about grabbing Photoshop CS. From what I've seen, its just an integrated raw processing thing w/in photoshop.. so if you have something capable of handling raw now, its not that enticing of a program (although it is great)

I did get it.. but then again, I mainly do graphics and not photography, so.. :D

I would also agree that if you have PS7 and the RAW import then you are not too far behind the curve.

I didn't, I only had PS 7 and the Canon software.

However, I wouldn't be able to live without the Shadow/Highlight tool in CS, nor the browser that has the built in RAW browsing. :)

Cheers

Probably most of the PS upgrades have seen a similar degree of change, its just that this time most of the significant improvements have been aimed at photographers rather than graphic designers.

The RAW converted is the most significant feature if you are shooting digitally, but there's also the improved File Browser; More 16 bit editing (including layers and painting); Shadow/Highlight adjustment (very powerful - Hope you haven't just bought Kodak's plug-in that does the same thing!); Colour matching; Live Histograms (for all channels if you want); and a really impressive Lens Blur filter (no more trying to emulate DoF with gaussian/median only to realize it just don't work like that!).

But don't worry if you just got 7, give it 14 months and you can upgrade to CS just before 9/CS2(?) comes out ;-)

Barry, not a moment of madness, but of envy and congratulations for acquiring the highest level of digital magic available anywhere ,anytime.
I have Photoshop 6, not 7, and just bought the 10D too.

Now that you own the 10D,then PS8 with its Canon raw converters puts you on the cutting edge of your photography.Hope to be right behind you in PS8!

Aint it great to have the best in cameras and software?

Just because you're paranoid doesnt mean they're not out to get you!

There is a $300 upgrade price @ Adobe from Photoshop Elements 2 to full Photoshop CS.

Go to the Adobe site and hunt around for it.

Another moment of madness! The same upgrade from Elements is £492 on adobe.co.uk!

Where did you find that offer?

On the German Adobe website (I live in Germany), they offer the upgrade from Elements to CS for EUR 695 (approx. USD 800) as opposed to the price for the new version of EUR 850 (USD 977).

That's definitely more of a price difference than the offer stated by you - so I'm certainly interested!

Andy
