I believe they are tent caterpillars. Fairly common in the NE US but not to this extreme...

Those are tent caterpillars, common in Canada too.

They work fast to cover the bikes that quick, and I've never seen anything like that in the trees either. Usually they have a big nest, not the whole block!!!!

What do they eventually turn into? Moth? Butterfly?
I thought that would draw a lot of worm eating birds such as vireos, swallows, wrens....etc but where are they?
