I'm bored at work and thought I'd just ask what is on everyone's Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa wishlist with regards to photograhy this year?

I would like to have a 70-200 f/2.8L IS lens, but I'm not going to ask for it.

Instead, I'd like a new credit card with about $20K credit limit. We'll worry about the details later.

I was thinking about the Canon i9100 wide format printer, but I already have the i950, so not sure. I'm also thinking about a Macro lens. What I really need is about a dozen extra weekends, so after all the honey-dos I can actually get out and take pictures.

I'd like a set of studio lights. Just not sure which ones yet.

I've just picked up my 10D, and since this is my first SLR, I kind of lack "some" stuff. Here's what I wan't for christmas

Another 1GB Microdrive (or regular CF)
17-40mm f/4L
24-70 f/2.8L
70-200 f/4L
BG-ED3 (Vertical-grip (with handstrap))
Spare battery
A backpack for the equipment
Someone to pay the mastercard-bill for my body-purchase
A tripod
Photography-skills
A new better paid job
Some more credit on my mastercard
A new chance with my (ex)girlfriend

In return, I will give my family and friends an equal share of my mastercard-bill ;)

No seriously.. This is what I wan't, but I'm not gonna ask for it ;)

I want an end to the war in Iraq, a new president, a country that reads more and watches less TV and a guinea pig.

Oh wait. You mean camera gear...

I'm thinking about a Canon i9100 or Epson 2200. But what I really want is for Canon or Epson to come out with a 2-picoliter version of either of these, or for HP to come out with a wide format printer - their top model only prints 8.5" wide.

I would love a portable storage device, but I need one with a long battery life. Currently the front runner is the ImageTank G2 with up to 44 downloads of a 256MB card on one charge, but I hear it has problems with Windows XP and customer service is virtually non-existant.

And I need someone to take all these millions of dollars off my hands. Not.

You and me both. I really want to believe Canon has a 2-picoliter wide-format on deck to follow the i960. Gonna wait just a little while longer...

I have had a good look at the same prints from the 960 (2 picolitre) and my i9100 (4 picolitre) and I can honestly say you can not see *any* difference.

Anyway, for Xmas I want my two front teeth... :D

Actually, I want it to snow while I have my first holiday in ages. It never* snows here in the UK anymore. I can picture it now. I'll awake on my first day off work and there will be two foot of snow on the ground but will still be overcast but bright. I'll be able to go and tramp around the fields taking shots with the 10D then I'll be able to come home and sit in front of the fire with a nice scotch......

Xmas Cheers

Ian

* - Massive generalisation. OK, we don't get 5 foot snow drifts for weeks on end anymore.

May I ask why you need so much battery life?

My X-drive has never run down its battery, but I recharge it from my auto battery.

In fact, I did a stupid thing with it the other day. I was in Death Valley National Park, and I had shot about three 256MB cards full of images. When I got to my car, I pulled out the X-drive and set it on the roof of the car. Then I powered it on, stuck the first CF card into it, and hit the Copy button. The lights worked. I knew it would take a few minutes, so I was doing other things and not watching. Then the wind came up and blew it off the roof and onto the gravel parking lot. The lights were still going, so I just let it finish. When I got it home two days later, no image files were affected by the fall.

Wow. I was in Vegas last May and accidentally bumped mine when it was sitting on the desk in the hotel room copying some pictures. The lights went out like I'd hit the power button. I turned it back on and started the copy process all over again.

Santa

Belmondo,

And to think I liked you until the gay joke....... I'm going to have a talk with Santa - I see coal in your future....

That's not a gay joke---I don't joke about that, and if I knew you better, I'd be happy to tell you why (no, not me, but someone very close). It's a Michael Jackson joke. I just think MJ is just plain wierd without regard to his sexual orientation.

Besides, he's been married to Lisa-Marie. Something must work right.

Anyway, if what I said was offensive for any reason, please accept my apology. And keep the coal. We don't need it here in the Coachella Valley.

BTW, I have a niece who's birthday is also on Christmas --- her name is 'Amy Noel.'

Hope we're still friends.

Okie, Dokie - I'll speak to the big guy and remove the lump of coal order!

Sorry - thought it was a gay joke on Clay - so many people do that towards him. I happen to like the guy a lot. I took tons of photos of him and he basically paid for my brand-new 10D! Love him a LOT now!!!

Now, wish I could get him in front of that 10D! I will be getting one of the other Amercian Idol contestants in front of it though!

Smiles,

Holly

Perhaps... but that's not to say there isn't any difference.

For xmas I want enough photography work for me to totally quit my day job.
But somethings are too much to hope for, OK, the 1Ds will do fine...
Alright - I'll settle for an EF70-200 F2.8 LIS...
OK, a Sigma 70-200 F2.8 EX...
Oh, right. A nice carbon fiber tripod with ball head then.
Er, how about an aluminium manfrotto with a decent ball head.
Ah yes, that 1Gb microdrive will be lovely.

Thankyou so much for my 256Mb CF card, it was what I really wanted *all* alond :D :D :D

OK, I want it all!!!

1DS
16-35L
24-70L
70-200L
Pretty much anything else "L"
A good, sturdy tripod to replace the "sagmaster" that I have now (OK,its fine with the Elan, but it sags under the pressure of the FT and the no-name 600mm tele)
The wisdom to use all of the above

More realistically, I expect something on the order of film for the "old" camera, and I hope for the opportunity to photograph my aging father again this year!

For backpacking. My trusty '86 4Runner also lacks a cigarette lighter. ;) I know, I know, I could put one in. but I'm lazy.

How many GB's of pics can you get on your X's-Drive on one charge before it quits?

I will go easy on Santa this year,
I want an 1Ds (with all accessories) and a 1200mm lens to go with it, but will settle for a set of four White Lightning or Alien Bee stobes.
