Nothing like the first and last light of day. This was the last. A nice sunset at the edge of Lake Winnipesaukee.

Good use of warm light and exposed well to give a nice warm colour on the Mallard, nice one Paul, well done.

Those are beautiful shots, and the lighting is excellent. The only thing I'd correct you on is the gender.....that is a drake mallard in eclipse plumage.....a mistake I frequently make.:oops:

The difference is seen in the bill. The male has the yellowish bill with the dark spot at the end. The female has an orange bill with some darker areas thru out the bill. Go here for side by side pictures. http://www.haryana-online.com/Fauna/Birds/mallard.htm

Airedale1....the first picture is of a female. Her bill is black and orange......the second is a drake. Notice how the drake's bill is a greenish yellow color. I find this the easiest way to tell the difference.
