View Full Version : Canon rebates and a REAL Canon rep...?

Has anyone ever called Canon to complain about their third-party rebate reps? I mailed in a rebate for $125... $100 for the Rebel XT kit and $25 for the 85/1.8 lens. I have received notification that a $100 check was mailed, but that I did not include a copy of the warranty card for the lens.

The kicker?

I copied ALL THREE cards on one sheet of paper, and the 85/1.8 was SMACK DAB in the middle. I've read numerous horror stories here and elsewhere about these people. Canon needs to hear about this!!! Perhaps we should organize a letter writing campaign to their offices? I'm serious! Why bother to offer rebates if it's just going to enrage your consumer base?

Any thoughts?!?!

all the companies are the same, and canon can't do anything about it. write to the rebate house, and if neccessary your BBB and/or state attorney general.

with rebates, if it tells you to stand on your head and sign the paper backwards, you better well do it if you want to get paid.

I had a $400 rebate from my printer, and online it said never received for 2 months, then just showed up one day.

Correct if I am wrong but isn't the rebate service contracted out by Canon to the rebate company in which case with enough complaints then Canon can do something about. Complain to the rebate company directly and Canon may very well not be aware of the hassles people have claiming rebates. And it seems a like a lot of people are having these hassles.

coreypolis- I agree, but if the instructions say to stand on my head and sign the paper backwards, and I do exactly that, I EXPECT, no... DEMAND that they fulfill my request properly. I played by their rules... but they aren't playing by their rules.

JubeJube, thanks for the info. I'm curious, if you use an automated process to scan in paperwork (what I was told) why is there no quality control? Maybe you don't work in that department, I dunno. It's just a bit frustrating.

I do work in that dep. we are suppose to scan in every "upc" code that the consumer has sent in.. sometimes that doesn't always happen!! we have 'audits' once a week and if not all the bar codes are scaned(or other mistakes that prevents the consumer from getting the rebate or getting the rebate that shouldn't) than we loose up to $.50 an hour pay (depending on how many mistakes are made) and if you have 5 mistakes in a row you are fired. (or if your accuracy falls below 95%)

JubeJube, awfully brave of you to come in and say 'I work there' :) Thanks for your inputs.

jesse, I dont have any email addresses or contacts. The usual way I go about doing anything is to get a list of top execs of a company and find how the email addresses are setup there. eg. last.first@xxxvvv.com is real easy right? Then, out go a few mails to the top honchos.....

Hey JubeJube::

Since we have you here..... how long does it take to get a check cut? My rebate has been in the "processing" stage for 3 weeks now.

Thanks for coming on here and answering questions for us!

Carol... first, I'm surely not the only one to complain on these forums about the rebate issues... and this is just ONE group of users with issues. Also, making mistakes at my job often leads to being fired, so I try VERY hard to avoid it.
