Got close to this one last night at Sunset - there were few birds on this beach - Fortune's Rocks, Biddeford, Maine - Was lucky this piper let me so close! The day before there were about 1000 birds at the same spot.

Beautiful shot Bob !! I think it may be a semi-palmated because of the dark legs. The Least's legs are a yellowish green. Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful, nice and sharp. I was in Ogunquit last week but couldn't get that close to the little critters, plovers drove me crazy too. I love the lighting.

Wow...fantastic shot. I actually think this might be a Semi palmated Sandpiper but I might be wrong. Excellent work. :-)

Very nice shot indeed Stardog, only caught up with this species last month but this is a great reminder of a cracking wader.

Simply stunning shot, these are the smallest sandpipers of all aren't they?

It's not a least, but it may be a Western or Semipalmated Sandpiper.
If I had to bet, I'd say it's a juvenile Sanderling. The face seems a little to plain to be one of the "peeps".
Do you have other pictures?

Wonderful shot, I vote for semipalmated, appears to have a straighter shorter bill.
