to be honest your in totaly the wrong place see how the shadow has darkend this side of your car you wanted to be on a pair of steps the other side of the grandstand (see my site for examples nearly all drag where takin at the pod) if u wanted the "ass" try and get it just as he lights the tyres up but its the wrong time of day for shoting from the barn. if your into drag racing a better place to go for photography is shaky not as fast but its a good place to practice
hope this helps a bit. im always at the drags so give me a shout and ill see if we can meet up

the car isnt mine, i wanst that interested in getting the car but more of the whole image, i wanted the whole strip showing the finish line and the timing boards, the christmas tree and a no discript car at the start. i chose to under expose it to get the colour of the red (which is a lovly red) to show up more and contrast with the shadows on the car, and the fact that the bloke is stood there to help in guiding the car into stage was something different. i wanted the lonly/moody type look i hope ive captured
A couple of burnout pics

to be honest I dont think its very iscolated as you have a grandstand of people on you left of shot. I think if you moved left a bit into the middle of the lane (hard i know when your in the barn) so you was shooting inline with the quatermile not at a angle and then had a tight crop to get rid of the gantry i think it would work quite well JMHO I think the second shot of the 32 would look realy well if you could see the bords

Just my thoughts, but it seems to me that they are all a bit under-exposed, and they could use a lot more color saturation. Most motor-sport images have very vibrant colors, and it just seems to be lacking here. If you are not shooting in RAW, you might want to try it out. It will give you more flexibility in shots like this where the lighting can be a bit harsh, and let you tweak your levels without affecting the original shot. I don't really shoot cars, so I don't know too much for this. I am intrested though because I have a co-worker that drags, and he is going to get me track-side this year.

I wanted the under exposed look, i ferel it gives the photos a bit of depth grittyness and some good contrasts highlighting certain colours, and its a different style of what was being shot by 100's of other people that day.
i was trying something new to see what it came out like and i liked it, but i did have 100's of other photos i experimented with that are completly rubbish though

I have to agree that the photo's are underexposed quite a bit. To get more interesting shots try composing using the rule of thirds. Also for motorsports it's better to shoot the vehicle from the side and get some motion blur. Great start and have fun while shooting.

Hey Monkeymicra,
I don't post here often, since I don't live near any racing events. But your first picture caught my eye, saw something I liked.
So I took it into photoshop, played with it some. Hope you don't mind.
