I am wondering if I could use some of my old Canon FD lenses on my 20D. Is there any good, but not too expensive, FD to EF adapter for Canon? Will the image quality stay the same with the adaptor?
Cheers..Dan

Here are your options for a FD lens to a EOS body.
1. A Canon made adapter with very good optical quality, that is no longer made, and is currently selling for about $800.00. This adapter will only work on certain Canon FD lenses, typically being longer telephotos.
2. A third party copy of the above that sells for about $40.00 on ebay and typically has very poor optical quality.
3. An inexpensive third party adapter that does not have an optical element, that gives very good optical quality, but will not allow focus over the entire range. Focus distances at or near infinity are not possible.
In, short. An FD lens to Canon EOS body is not very practical for most.
Pentax screw (M42) lenses, Nikon lenses, and Olympus OM lens all adapt to the Canon EOS body in a more practical manner with the use of relatively inexpensive, mechanical only (no optics), adapters.

Use the search function, this question comes up regularly. Belmondo posted a great link on this stuff.
Bottom line is, it's not worth the trouble, FD lenses do not convert well to the Eos mount, usually the converters lose quality and the ability to focus to infinity.
The Canon converter costs a lot and is very rare, and it only works on some of the FD lenses, typically the more expensive ones. It was never sold commercially, just to pros with a big investment in FD lenses.
