I am stuck with no access to the manual of my new 20D, and I wanted to know why the On-Off button has three positions rather than two (as in the 10D), and what does the intermediate step do.
As soon as I can get my current assignment done I Will try to locate a downloadable Canon manual, I just have everything at home, and can't wait to understand what this is, and if it's good for me.
Cheers, and many thanks to anyone who would take a moment to answer my extremely technical pro question. :o

The center position disables the control dial on the back. All the way up allows you to use the control.

Thank you !... So bottom is off, middle is on but little joystick wont work, and top is on with joystick control. I got this thing a few mins ago, as soon as I get done designing this brochure, I am going to post a couple of pics. I will keep my tattoo of the 10D, but I am in love with the 20D so far !!..

Do you really have a permanent tattoo of the 10D? Now that is a picture to post (as long as it is on an appropriate part of the body).

I am afraid no tattoo really, but if this keeps going I may have to get one.
Thanks for the clarification, so instead of the duplicate switches of the 10D, we now have the joystick AND the switch, with works as On/Off for the Camera and the big dial wheel as well.
Thanks for all the help !!!...

What they basically did was combine the two switches on the 10D (one for off/on, one for quick dial off/on) into one switch with 3 positions on the 20/30D (for off/camera-on-quick-dial-off/everything-on).
The joystick is a bonus. But they did take away the "X" button to even things out.
